Thursday, June 11 Sam messaged me during the late morning and asked, “Is Grandpa home after lunch?” When I said, “Yes”, he said, “Okay. Cool. I have a surprise for him.” BTW Sam is not a grandson. 🙂 He is a friend of a few of our grandsons and spent a lot of time in […]

Thursday, June 11 I went outside for my usual patio-walk-around while finishing my second cup of coffee and thought of that good old Rodgers and Hammerstein song from the movie Oklahoma. There’s a bright golden haze on the meadowThere’s a bright golden haze on the meadowThe corn is as high as an elephant’s eyeAnd it […]

Yarrow and Yummy French Toast

Wednesday, June 10 Our Yarrow was too pretty to keep all the beauty outside. I love challenges with food. 🙂 Deb tried making pecan rolls for the first time and was disappointed that they were kind of dry. Buttering and grilling made them quite delicious. Then I got another idea to do with the four […]

What Do You Think He is Planting and a Few Birds

Wednesday, June 10 Jacob is tilling and cultipacking the field again. I am almost sure that this crop won’t be corn. By evening he was planting something with a three-row planter. I expect this may be butternut squash – like last year – because of the amount of space between the planters. On this side […]

Fieldwork and Rose-breasted Grosbeak

Monday, June 8 There was someone back in Eli and Jacob’s field – tilling and cultipacking the ground. I am interested to see what they are going to plant. There is a lot of dust, so the topsoil must be rather dry. Closer to the house – but looking out the same window – a […]

Sunday, June 7 Following morning worship we headed toward Roy and Deb’s house for an afternoon visit – stopping at Rosie’s for subs that Deb had ordered. We have a few Amish in our area, but they live in an area – south of Lancaster – where there is a large Amish community. It was […]

Thursday, June 4 Remember. I told you yesterday that the field was completely plowed by the time I got up in the morning. This is it. I love the sight and scent of newly plowed earth. I always find it amazing that this is the same earth that God created thousands of years ago – […]

The Saga of Plowing a Field

Wednesday, June 3 Yesterday I showed the plowing and spreading of manure on this field – across the road from us. The next morning someone was out plowing again by 11 am. This wasn’t any of our Amish neighbors (Eli or Jacob) but must be an English friend who enjoys field work. A short time […]

Lots Happening Outside Our Windows ~ Road and Fieldwork

Tuesday, June 2 It was about 9 am when I heard machinery and saw that the township was cleaning up the roadside. Then I noticed that our Amish neighbor was plowing the field across the road. Putting sod and dirt into the dump truck. This proves that the roadwork and fieldwork was happening simultaneously. Cleanup […]

May 30, 2020 That’s something you don’t see very often – a hummingbird perched on a shepherd’s hook. It was kind of far away, but you can see that it is a pretty male. Feeding at the patio feeder – also farther away than the window feeder. Our yucca will soon be blooming. There will […]

My husband, Cerwin, and I have four children, seventeen grandchildren (2 are in Heaven), and 19 great grandchildren. Cerwin spent 40 years as a truck driver for Ferrellgas. We are both retired from serving with Transport For Christ - a ministry to truck drivers - and love our life in rural Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
