Cataract Surgery #1

Monday, September 21

I was told to be at the Surgical Center by 7:00 am for my 8:00 am surgery.

We arrived about 6:50 and after checking in, I was almost immediately called back for pre-op preparation. When I saw this picture, I told Cerwin he should have given me an alert so I could have smiled. πŸ™‚

I had the best prep nurses and anesthesiologists. Everyone was kind and friendly. I haven’t had many surgeries in my life, but I think this was the first time I actually saw the operating room because I was not totally put out. My left eyeball was numbed, and I knew what was going on but could have cared less as to what was going on around me. I could respond when he told me to look at a certain colored light. There was no pain and the surgery took about seven minutes.

Before long I was sitting in the recovery room drinking cranberry juice and eating crackers.

I headed home with an eye shield which was to protect the eye from being touched. My eye felt scratchy for a few hours and a bit leaky for a bit, but after a late morning nap, that was gone.

After removing the shield when I woke up this morning, I looked in the mirror and thought, I can see every wrinkle and spot. “I think I looked better when my vision was blurred a bit by the cataract.” πŸ™‚

I have a checkup this afternoon, then the right cataract will be removed next Monday. Because this was an extremely good experience I certainly do not dread the next one.
