October 20, 2026 – Lisbon Falls, Maine, to Sturbridge, Massachusetts

We left Mark and Diane’s home about 11 am with Diane following us. Our first stop was to get enough fuel to take us to the Sturbridge gas station where the cost was just over $4. While Cerwin fueled the car, Diane went to a coffee shop and got me and her an orange/honey chai. Oh, my that was delicious.

We were not at any place that featured lobster during our stay with Mark and Diane, so I suggested we go to Maine Diner in Wells, ME for lunch on the way home. Diane decided to go with us, then stop at some quilt and gift shops on her way home.

Cerwin got a bowl of chili, Diane got a Reuben sandwich and I had my lobster fix.

There were two lobster dishes that attracted me, but the lobster bake included two sides. I didn’t think I wanted that much food, so I asked if I could get a lobster roll without the roll. Our waitress said, “Of course. Do you want it hot with butter or cold with the usual lobster roll mix?” I didn’t expect to have a hot choice, do asked for hot with butter. It was so good to taste lobster again. The coleslaw was also delicious.

Then our waitress tempted us with blueberry/chocolate chip ice cream that is created just for this restaurant. We asked for a small dish and three spoons. Oh, my, that was fabulous.
I noticed an older couple sitting next to us – and by older I figured they were older than us. I noticed he was wearing a green dress jacket that appeared to be golf colored/related with a pine tree patch on the pocket. When I asked if his jacket was golf-related, he was quite pleased to tell us about his win. If I understood correctly, it involved the state of Maine. His wife told us if they had a house fire, he would get the green jacket first, then check on her. 🙂 We learned that he recently turned 90 years old and she does not let him drive. He said it is not worth trying to drive the car, because she tells him how to stop and where to turn. 🙂 When I asked what he did before retirement. He said he was a lawyer for the army, especially a general. When he was first interviewed for the job, the army personnel asked if he was afraid of an army general. He said, no, unless he has a gun pointed at me. We had trouble getting him to stop talking. I think we made their day.
Our final destination for the day was Sturbridge, MA, at the same motel we had last week. We even had the same room.

After getting settled, we went to Cracker Barrel for a light supper – 6 pm. Cerwin got a baked potato, and I had a small dish of broccoli and cheese. For dessert we shared this cinnamon bun pie. It was wonderfully delicious.
