This story began in spring when I noticed that there were only a few lilac blooms on our bush. Then a few weeks ago – on a lazy Saturday afternoon – we were watching RFD TV, when a gardener was demonstrating how to prune a lilac bush. As we listened to him talk about lilac […]

Saturday, July 18 The heat was brutal to our stargazer lilies – then there was wind and rain – thus I am glad I took these pictures when they were pretty. They were short-lived this year, but delightful.

Tuesday, July 14 I went outside about 5:15 AM hoping to see the space station going overhead. It was supposed to be easily seen in our area. However, for some reason I didn’t find it. I have seen it before, but not on this morning. I did see Venus. the moon and a lot of […]

Morning Sunshine ~ Evening Rain

Sunday, July 12 I loved watching the Amish carriages coming up the road between the cornfields – on the way to their church services. If the corn gets any taller, I won’t be able to see the carriages and vehicles. By evening the sky turned dark and we had a good rain. Some people were […]

A Wonderful All Day Rain

Friday, July 10 Because I am a lover of rain – especially during the summer when crops and flowers are thirsty – I grabbed my umbrella after lunch and went for a walk around our yard. Hosta flower dripping with rain drops. Butternut squash in the field across the road. A large puddle between the […]

Interesting Bird Stuff

Friday, July 10 It was a cloudy, rainy day when I noticed this male Red-bellied Woodpecker on the right feeding the one on the left. The feeding was always done behind the log, so I couldn’t photograph the actual feeding. At first I thought it was a mating tradition, but our daughter Deb thought it […]

Gooseneck Flowers in Our Memory Garden

These are fairly invasive and spread quickly, but work perfectly in our woodlot memory garden. From the Internet: The Gooseneck flower (Lysimachia clethroides) is native to East Asia. Gooseneck loosestrife is a 24-to-30-inch foot tall, fast-spreading, herbaceous perennial in the primrose family. Plants continue flowering as long as the soil stays moist and temperatures do […]

My husband, Cerwin, and I have four children, seventeen grandchildren (2 are in Heaven), and 19 great grandchildren. Cerwin spent 40 years as a truck driver for Ferrellgas. We are both retired from serving with Transport For Christ - a ministry to truck drivers - and love our life in rural Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
