Visiting the Manheim Farm Show

Three things called us to attend our local farm show today: The beautiful weather, Jere and Kristen were working at the French fry stand, and Cerwin had cash from his parttime job at Lancaster DHIA to use for food at the farm show.

The French fry stand always has one of the longest waiting lines.

They go through thousands of potatoes during farm show week.

Volunteers offer to cut the potatoes – one potato at a time.

We found a time when Jere and Kristen could pose for a picture.

They were wearing t-shirts from two years ago.

Jere took a picture of us enjoying lunch on chairs next to the French fry stand.

This is what we share for lunch every year we go to the farm show: cheese steak, French fries, and a vanilla milkshake.

The planned visit from Hershey Medical’s Life Lion helicopter happened as I was walking toward the milk shake stand.

Coming down toward the space reserved for it on the lawn next to the football field.

I didn’t walk over toward where it landed, but LOTS of other people did. It was a hit with the children.

After lunch I walked toward the exhibits in and near the farm show buildings. Cerwin no longer likes walking long distances (arthritis in his hip) and stayed behind enjoying lunch.

Dennis Beach was busy at his wood carving spot.

My favorite carving and the others will be sold at the auction this evening.

Other carvings that will be sold tonight.

My next stop was the building that held a lot of entries in a variety of skills. I chose to look at the children’s artwork because two of our great granddaughters had entries here. So many children had entries that I had to call our granddaughter Abby to help me find Jasmine and Natalie’s entries.

She directed me to a red barn with a grey silo for Jazzy’s entry.

Then she directed me to the right to a pink/purple barn for Natalie’s entry.

Great job girls.

I then went to another building to find the Lego entries from Anthony and Jasmine. It was a bit difficult to photograph the Lego designs because they were behind a protective netting.

Natalie won 3rd place for this entry in architecture. Great job!

Anthony got first place for his entry in Aircraft/Space. Great job!

It is fun to see our children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren being involved in the farm show.

The other day I received this photo from our granddaughter Diana – letting us know that Bennett (right) won 3rd place in a pedal tractor contest with about 30 five and six-year-olds. The girl behind the winners appears to be a queen of some sort because of her crown.

I understand this was the first time the farm show held a Touch a Truck event.

There was a nice variety of vehicles: farm tractors, trucks, and ambulance and even an Amish buggy.

I understand this is Amos’ buggy. He is the business owner whose employees take care of cutting down trees and removing stumps from our yard.

The children’s barrel train went through this area while I was looking at the vehicles.

After this I went back to Cerwin who was still sitting on the same chair. However, he said he did visit the Touch a Truck which was across the road from him.

After leaving the farm show area, we drove across town to our local grocery store (Weis) to get a few items. As we drove into the parking lot, Life Lion was leaving Manheim. I like this photo of it which included the large flag which is hoisted far above the farm show grounds. After this picture the helicopter did a low fly-over to please the crowd.
