Cataract Surgery #2 Successful

Monday Morning, September 28

We were supposed to check in by 9:10 this morning – and we did.

There was no bed available, so I started in a comfortable chair. The black dot above my right eye was to indicate the eye that was going to experience surgery.

My next move was to the hospital bed for further preparations for surgery – lots of eye drops, anesthesia and surgery information. My wait for surgery was a bit longer than last week but before long I was in Operating Room 6 and in less than ten minutes the cataract was removed and a new lens installed.

Cerwin met me in the recovery room while I enjoyed cranberry juice and Cheez-It crackers.

I couldn’t have any food after midnight and since it was now time for lunch, I welcomed Cerwin’s suggestion that we go through the drive-through at Burger King. We got our usual meals when we stop there. Cerwin gets a whopper Jr meal (so we have drink and French fries) and I get a Chicken Wrap with honey mustard sauce. Food tasted so good.

Recovery seems similar to last week. On the way home my eye was leaky and felt like it had been scratched. After a nap most of the scratchy feeling and leakiness was gone. Now it is evening and my eyes are beginning to match again in sight. That will improve as the week goes on.

I am still amazed at the bright colors and light. Yesterday in church I thought someone had added a new light bulb to the light that the preachers use for their notes and Bible. Then I realized it wasn’t the light but my new eyesight.

I will see the surgeon tomorrow, then not again for several weeks when I will get a new prescription for my glasses. Until then I will switch between no glasses for distance and reading glasses for close up vision. It is also good to longer have astigmatism.
