Raining Corn Silage
The other day we were following this load of corn silage and were thinking, “It’s good, chopped corn is biodegradable.” 🙂 The breeze made sure the extra silage was spread along the road.
Sewing Circle at White Oak Church
This set of photographs is part of my project to get activity photos for our church photo directory. One of the ladies said several of those who use sewing machines were missing. I wanted some closeup of their hands as they worked their project. I am not a seamstress, so rarely get to see these […]
Corn Harvest
I heard the equipment outside and noticed they were beginning corn harvest in the field to the southwest of our house. It was shortly after 11 am. Hauling the silage to the farm trench. Notice the tractor on top of the trench – at the farm. They drive the tractor back and forth on the […]
Hymn Sing at Kreider Church
~~~ Sunday Evening, September 10 ~~~ This church building is owned by White Oak Church and is considered an historical site in our area. It was built in 1859. As a rule, we have only two evening meetings here during a year – usually hymn sings. Those are held at the beginning and end of […]
Sparkling Rain Drops
~~~ Monday, September 11 ~~~ I love seeing sparkly raindrops on a sunny morning after an evening rain. This photo doesn’t look as “sparkly” as it appeared, but you can kind of get an idea of what I saw.
Praying Mantis
We saw this one the afternoon we were at Jakey and Crystal’s for the girl’s birthday party. From the Internet: Their upright posture, while remaining stationary with forearms folded, has led to the common name praying mantis. They have triangular heads with bulging eyes supported on flexible necks. They are part of the Mantodea family. All […]
A Birthday Party for Peyton & Bailey
~~~ Sunday Afternoon, September 10 ~~~ We always enjoy going to their birthday parties and eating the results of their dad’s grilling. There were so many delicious food choices. I took a picture of this plate of food – I think it was Elvin’s (Cerwin’s brother). Apparently, he likes macaroni. The one on the left […]
American Bison in Our Neighborhood
~~~ Sunday, September 10 ~~~ We were on the way to a family birthday party – a bit ahead of time – so when I saw the bison next to the road, I asked Cerwin if we could stop for pictures. He kindly agreed. It is delightful to see them up close. Most times they […]
Saturday Morning Walk
~~~ September 9 9:45 am ~~~ Morning walks are so refreshing – especially the day after rain. There were still raindrops on most of the vegetation – especially in the shade. I couldn’t resist this photo of a weed because of the sunshine highlighting it.
Fall Is Coming
I can tell because our trees are beginning their end-of-summer-change.
Morning Walk – Evening Storm
~~~ Thursday, September 7 ~~~ The temperatures were in the 90s last week, so I usually took a walk in the morning. I thought it was time to show you what is happening to the corn fields. As you can see, it is soon time for harvest if it is going to be chopped for […]
Morning Light
When I looked out our bathroom window the other morning and saw evidence that the sun had come up that morning, it immediately took me back to when I was a young woman and read my first book by Harold Bell Wright – Shepherd of the Hills. I was fascinated how he described the light […]
It Was a Beautiful Morning
I tried but could not capture the beauty of the dawn yesterday. I just loved the atmosphere when standing outside looking across our valley. There was a bit of a haze that looked like it went above the homestead. Then, within seconds the sky became pink. This was the view about half an hour later. […]
Birthday Supper with Zach and Gloria
~~~ September 3 5 pm ~~~ Their choice for a restaurant was Belvedere Inn on North Queen Street in Lancaster. From the Internet: Opened in 1998, The Belvedere Inn has always been a fun and relaxed place to enjoy life, food family, and friends, old and new. This Victorian Italianate-style city mansion was built in […]
