Ian’s Birthday Lunch
~~~ Sunday, September 12 ~~~ Steak was Ian’s choice of meat – grilled by his dad. While Jere grilled steaks, I walked around the outside of the house looking for beauty. I also came upon some sister/brother talk. Jana and Josh. Time to eat: Cerwin, Josh, Jere, Kristen, Jana, Austin, Ian, Jared and Jesse. First […]
16th Annual Bluegrass Gospel Singing on the Farm
~~~ Saturday, September 11 ~~~ This is an event we enjoy attending each year – when it suits. We were not able to attend on Friday evening, but spent most of the day there on Saturday. The first group had just finished when we arrived. There were six sets of singers. Each sang for one […]
Carolina Wrens
I love watching these tiny, feisty birds as they feed, sing, build nests and irritate other birds. I am thinking that this one thought he saw another wren in the window. Or, he was just curious about what I was doing. I’m glad we get to see Carolina Wrens at our feeders and windows.
Fertilizer for Our Yard
~~~ Thursday Afternoon, September 9 ~~~ We are blessed to live close enough to Jere and Kristen’s family that he can bring this apparatus to our place to fertilize the yard. Thanks, Jere!
Red-bellied Woodpecker
I enjoyed watching this pretty lady at the suet. Her partner was at the feeder a bit later. There is more red on his head. In these pictures you can see why they are called “red-bellied” woodpeckers. Look at the birds in the air. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns. But […]
Our Birds Are Coming Back
It was difficult for me to keep our feeders empty for about thirty days in late July and early August, so it has been good to begin filling the feeders again. It was fun watching birds in the new “tire” feeder I bought at Walker’s Farm Market in Minnesota this summer. Birds make me smile […]
Labor Day Picnic Lunch
~~~ Monday, September 6 ~~~ Kristen called to ask if I had plans for lunch. I did not. She was planning a picnic lunch for Jared and Jesse – the only two of their five children who were at home. Josh, Emily and Tucker live in Philadelphia, Austin and Jana live in Lancaster and Ian […]
Wild Hog Hunt in Tennessee
~~~ Friday, September 3 to Tuesday, September 7 ~~~ It was mid-January when Jere (our youngest son) and Ian (grandchild #14) came to visit one evening to tell us they were going on a wild hog hunt. This is what Ian chose to do for his high school graduation gift from his parents. What Ian […]
A White Moth on Our Window
~~~ Friday, September 3 ~~~ I love looking at the intricate parts of moths and butterflies. Especially the wings. It’s fun to see the legs, wings and body when it is on the outside of a window. I wonder why God made moths. 🙂
Rhodes Grove Camp Meeting
~~~ Saturday, September 4 ~~~ This is a weeklong Bible Conference and Camp Meeting that has been happening in our church in the southeastern area of Pennsylvania and surrounding states for sixty-eight years. About every two years they have a special meeting for the ladies on Saturday afternoon. I was asked to be the ladies […]
Hummingbirds
As some of you know, I stopped feeding the birds for about a month, until our Pennsylvania “powers that be” told us it was okay again. The feed we were using wasn’t the problem. The problem was that birds were getting sick and dying and they were trying to have us “stop” the spread. (a […]
Colored Leaves on Our Porch
~~~ Thursday, September 2 ~~~ This is what I saw when I looked outside on the morning after Hurricane Ida whooshed through here. I told Cerwin – it looked like one leaf from every tree in our woodlot landed on the porch during the night. I looked outside many times that morning to just enjoy […]
Having Fun with Diane
Diane loves being close to their Pennsylvania grandchildren when she stays with us. Anthony and Jasmine stayed overnight and enjoyed pancakes for breakfast. Anthony made a ramp for his new remote control truck. With all three of Nate and Abby’s children: Anthony, Natalie and Jasmine. Anthony wanted to make sure that Meco got on the […]
