Swimming with Granddaughters and Great Grandchildren
~~~ Tuesday, August 9 11:00 AM to 12:50 PM ~~~ We scheduled this swim date several days earlier as we tried to suit each of the great grandchildren who live in our area – and their mothers. There are 8 great’s who live nearby. Scheduling at Refreshing Mountain is done online for a 1 hour […]
Update on the Pond
~~~ August 9 – the morning after draining the pond ~~~ Art will have to dig a deeper ditch to empty the pond. I expect that will happen in the next few days. If you are following the “drain the pond story” you know what it looked like the day before.
Thistles Do Have Pretty Flowers
~~~ Monday Evening, August 8 ~~~ I noticed this thistle next to the fence the other evening while we were watching the first step toward draining the pond at the homestead. Though they are not considered to be a pretty plant – instead a pesky nuisance – I still find them interesting. This fading thistle […]
Draining the Pond at the Homestead
~~~ Monday Evening, August 8 ~~~ The pond is ready to be drained and to have a new start. The mud is deep, and the algae is green. My brother Dale and I were discussing when our dad first dug it – to deal with the swampy wetland in that area. We both remember it […]
Rain! Sweet Rain!
~~~ Sunday, August 7 3:24 PM ~~~ The corn fields and grass soaked it up!
Sharing the Harvest
Sunday, August 7 Each fall our church family shares our harvest or buys things for local food banks and non-profit organizations that need food. This year, in addition to that, those who have farms and gardens are encouraged to bring their excess to the fellowship hall and share it with our church family. We have […]
The Growth of a Sunset Maple
This is what our Sunset Maple looked like 14 years ago when it was planted in 2008. Jordan, do you remember helping us choose a good tree? 🙂 Look at it now!
Spiderweb Outside Our Window
Aren’t spiders amazing creatures?
Our Pretty Crepe Myrtle Bush
Our Crepe Myrtle bush is especially pretty this year. It’s what we see each time we look out our kitchen window. Because of the brilliant red we sometimes miss the pretty little yellow flowers in the middle.
Jazzy’s Birthday Party
~~~ Tuesday, August 2 6:00 PM ~~~ What fun to celebrate a 3-year old’s birthday. Jasmine wanted a kitty cake. I found this in our birthday shelf and thought she would enjoy it. I forgot it was there with my birthday stuff. Homemade pizza (with sourdough crust) and watermelon for supper. Everything was delicious, but […]
What Is He Planting?
Remember the other week when I showed this picture and promised to tell you what he was sowing? It is reveal time! We soon learned that it wasn’t corn. It was soybeans that came up looking healthy.
Yellow Hearts Are Falling on Our Driveway
They don’t all fall at the same place, so I gathered some to show you the variety. Most of our Red Bud leaves are still green… …but fall is coming, and several are turning yellow and falling from the tree. I enjoy the variety of leaves in our woodlot.
Brunch at Richland Railroad Diner
~~~ Monday, July 25 10:00 AM ~~~ We have been trying to get together with Nelson and Nancy for several weeks. He messaged us the night before expecting that it may be too short a notice. It wasn’t. 🙂 We had a delicious brunch and sweet fellowship. I think Cerwin and Nelson are 2nd cousins. […]
Sparrows
I rarely make an entry about sparrows because they are so common, but I figure they need their own post just like some of the pretty and less common birds. The internet tells me: Sparrows can be found in nearly every habitat, from deserts and arid grasslands to marshes, forests and even urban areas. Most […]
