Notes from Sunday Morning Worship

Sunday, June 7 – Via Zoom and in Person

Opening Thoughts for Sunday School – Matt Patches

Sunday school lesson – Listen to God’s Wisdom – Proverbs 1

We live in a dark time when God’s wisdom is greatly needed.

Sunday school Teacher – Kevin Longenecker

We have two choices – Wisdom or fool.

There is lots of confusion concerning COVID-19.

God is not the author of confusion

There are many different voices – sometimes causing fear.

What happens when confusion outweighs truth?

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

The Bible will not change its story.

Listen to God’s wisdom.

Understanding is how we use knowledge.

We have a choice – being wise or being foolish.

How do we get wisdom?

From the Lord

From our parents. If you have Godly parents.

Why do I want wisdom?

Keeps you from evil

Better than rubies

Brings happiness

Gives light

Makes us strong

Better than weapons

Stability

Produces good fruit.

How did Solomon get wisdom?

It was a gift from God.

We ask, accept, then practice wisdom.

He that knows to do good and doesn’t do it – it is sin.

Wisdom is prudence

Knowing what to say and when to keep quiet.

Gives experience

Helps us navigate through a sin-infested world.

Key to knowledge is the fear of God

Fear (reverence, belief) of God is the beginning of wisdom.

Fear of the Lord is linked to obedience.

What does the fear of the Lord look like? Obedience

We need wisdom in our everyday life – where the rubber meets the road.

Wisdom often speaks: I should not do this – but you choose folly and do it anyway.

The children’s story and sermon were at our church on Penryn Road.

Children’s Story – Ron Copenhaver

Photo of a soaring eagle on the screen.

Eagles represent strength – Isaiah 40 – We will rise up and not faint.

Photo of an eagle in a trap.

Eagles are meant to soar and not be trapped.

It is sad to see a beautiful eagle in a trap, but this eagle was betrayed by bait that was not meant for him.

It is sadder yet to see a Christian who has been trapped by Satan’s bait.

Eagles and Christians are meant to soar.

Ten Questions for God about Covid-19 – by Jim Myer – Scripture – Revelations 22

Church joke: since Christians cannot meet in church, maybe we should gather in the plumbing aisle in Home Depot – because anyone can go to Home Depot. 🙂

Why is there so much trouble in the world?

Sin is a curse that has not yet been lifted from the world.

God, do you bring about world-wide calamities to get our attention?

Yes, at times. I brought the flood.

Did You cause the pandemic or allow it?

During the time of Moses I brought the plagues.

Whether God caused COVID-19 or allowed it – He can and will use it for his glory.

Stand still and watch God during a time of trouble. Remember He separated the Red Sea for the Children of Israel and their pursuers died.

Why do bad things happen to good people?

Example: Job. Satan can also cause problems – when God allows.

Due to Job’s faithfulness – his life multiplied and he said, “It was good that I had been afflicted.”

Do You tempt people to make the fail?

No, God tests us to make us strong. The choice is ours.

God asked Abraham to move to a new land.

Abraham followed God’s leading.

He was promised children, but that didn’t happen until he was 100 years old.

Then God asked him to sacrifice Isaac.

Abraham obeyed and at the last minute a lamb was provided.

God tests us to make us strong.

Is there any good purpose for this virus?

Remember the Apostle Paul.

Experience produces hope.

My grace is sufficient.

God gives abundant grace – not meager grace.

What if we die from this virus?

Remember the thief on the cross when Jesus said, “Today  you will be with me in paradise.”

How are we to be salt and light in this situation?

Peter said – be busy in well-doing.

Put self-pity to death.

Lean toward love.

Is this a sign of the soon return of Jesus?

Jesus said, “There will be earth quakes and pestilence (a description of pestilence includes disease and pandemic)”

Wearing a face mask is peanuts compared to what will happen when the mark of the beast is brought to this world.

Yes, this is a sign of the soon return of Jesus.

God, do you have any last words for us?

In Revelation 22 Jesus says three times: I am come quickly.

Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.

12 And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.

20 He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.”

Now is the day of salvation.

Is your soul secure?
