The other week when I woke up, Cerwin said, “Did you know the garage door was open all night?”
We thought back to the night before and after coming home from shopping and putting things away in the cupboards, freezer and refrigerator, both thought the other had closed the garage door. 🙂
I smiled when I wondered what neighbors thought when they drove by in the late night and early morning hours. There is always a light on in the garage, so it was easy to see.
We also smiled when we wondered what the raccoons, skunks, and cats thought. It seems than none of them entered the garage, or at least they didn’t stay.
Each day I ask God to keep us safe and to surround our house with guardian angels during the night while we sleep. I can almost hear God saying to me, “If you want me to protect you while you sleep, it might be a good idea to close your garage door before you go to bed.” Obviously He protected even with an open garage door.
I think that was a first in our 62 & 3/4 years of marriage.
Before I moved, my bedtime routine was a door check — front door, sliding patio doors, garage door and door from garage to house. It was so routine that I never missed. Now I don’t worry about that, but my morning routine includes hitting a button to tell “Safety” that I’m awake — I usually turn on a light to remind me that I have done that, as there have been several times that I couldn’t remember whether or not I had hit the button!
That’s a good idea. We don’t usually have to check on the garage door, because we shut the door after pulling a car inside. 🙂
