Shady Maple with Friends

It has been many years since we went to this smorgasbord. We do get there every now and then in their banquet area. It is the largest smorgasbord in North America.

I took a flash photo by accident because my camera was set for that.

Our friends Howard and Pat from Connecticut wanted to try the smorgasbord during this summer’s visit to Lancaster County. They come every summer to go to Sight and Sound and Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre. We know them from our days of serving with Transport for Christ and enjoy having a meal with them each summer. Sam Rittenhouse and Inge Koenig are usually able to join us as well.

I prefer the softer image of this non-flash photo.

Around the table: Inge, Sam, Pat, Howard, and Cerwin.

I think each of us had more food than we needed but wanted to try the many things this smorgasbord offers. I am amazed at how busy this place is. There are two large rooms for diners and a few smaller rooms (like the one we were in). The smaller rooms are usually for reservations and bus loads, but anyone can be seated here if the room is not reserved.

Sam was there on July 3 with Amish friends and said the line of people waiting to get tickets, wound around the roped off area inside, then out the door and into the walkway around the parking lot.

We met at 5 pm and had maybe two dozen people ahead of us. After getting tickets, we waited awhile to be seated. The internet said they can seat 1,200 people in the smorgasbord area. Plus, the banquet area can seat 800 – 1,000 people.
