We enjoyed an interesting auction at our friend’s (Earl and Arlene) place. Arlene died several years ago, and Earl is in a retirement community home with dementia, thus their children held an auction for the property, household, and lawn and garden items.

It has been many years since we have been to an auction, but when we did go, it must have been a Kline/Kreider/Good auction, because they still had all our information when I went for a bidding number.

It was an incredibly beautiful day – in the mid to high 70’s, a clear sky, and a slight breeze. We felt like God was pouring a blessing on their family.

We went mostly to see their children (Donna, Roger and Renita) whom we have known since they were quite young and sit at the Winross model truck auction. Earl had a collection of more than 650 model trucks. The household items were sold in the tent in the background. We also enjoyed food from the food truck. Farm shows, fairs, and auctions are usually the only place I get a hot dog with sauerkraut. I was not disappointed. Cerwin almost always gets a cheeseburger – unless a cheese steak is an option.

There were about ten buyers who bought most of the Winross and model trucks. This person had quite a stash.

Cerwin was most interested in the Myer’s Metered Gas Winross, because that is the company where he began his truck driving career. He stayed there for forty years, however the company changed names several times. He had to pay $160.00 to get it. We bought it to make sure each of our children have one.

I bought some cheap ones for the toy box. I paid a total of $39.00 for these eight – averaging $4.875 a truck.

It was a blessed and nostalgic day. We met Earl and Arlene about 1970 (or a bit earlier) through Transport for Christ) then volunteered and served together from the late ’70’s until we retired in 2021.
