The European Starlings – and many other birds – seem to appreciate that I am keeping black oil sunflower seeds on top of the snow today. I put a tray of seeds on top of a bush just outside a kitchen window – and keep refilling it.

Tuesday, January 27 Cardinals always look spectacular in the snow. The male seemed particularly brilliant. The temperatures were warm enough last Tuesday to create many icicles. The snow made everything look cold – even with a warm-looking sunset.
