Tuesday, May 19 The male grosbeaks are beautiful birds and fun to watch. Look at the beautiful red feather pattern on his breast. …and then there was this. I took these pictures about an hour after watching the grosbeak – in the late afternoon. Surprisingly this doesn’t leave a bad smell – maybe just a […]
May 17, 2020 I enjoyed watching this Carolina Wren on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Wrens are fun to have in a feeding area. I enjoy their song, watching them build nests and just generally being at our feeders. They can be scrappy if another bird is in their territory. We had an afternoon TFC Global […]
Sunday Morning, May 17 Our niece Karen called from the farm asking if I was interested in seeing a bald eagle. It took me a while to locate it on the powerline pole. I drove toward the dairy barn to get a closer look. Larry said it was enjoying breakfast earlier in the morning – […]
Saturday, May 16 This is not the first time I saw a Brown Thrasher in our feeding area, but they are not here as often as other birds. I enjoyed watching it break an almond. It was apparently too large to eat whole, so it broke the almond by “attacking” it with its beak. The […]
Saturday, May 16 During our time of “sheltering at home” (most of the time), we gave ourselves a goal for each day. Cerwin’s goal for this particular Saturday was to wax both RAV4’s He reached his goal – both RAV4’s finished. Jere came to spray our yard – just before noon. Within a few days […]
Friday, May 15 There was rain since he cut the rye on Tuesday, so this young Amish man raked this for three hours – trying to get it dried. We thought they would bale it during the late afternoon, but it was still there when I went to bed. Cerwin went to bed an hour […]
Thursday, May 21 – Via Zoom Opening Thoughts – Carl Groff He read Acts 1:1-11. Acts 1:1-11 New King James Version Prologue 1-3: The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, until the day in which He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had […]
Friday, May 22 Remember when I posted photos of our pretty rhododendron in early May… …then the snow and freezing temperatures? This is what the beautiful flowers looked like a few days after the freeze. 🙁 There were still several buds – and I hoped they survived the freeze, I didn’t feel like I got […]
Wednesday, May 13 Cerwin was glad for the help of our two youngest grandsons for this project. Jesse was in charge of the mailbox area. Jared and Cerwin did the large tree area. Thanks guys, it looks so nice.
We love you! Grandpa and Grandma High
Tuesday, May 12 I heard machinery near our yard (about noon) and noticed our Amish neighbors were doing a second cutting of their rye. I love watching a team of mules making a turn in the field. It takes team work to do that. Later in the day I noticed him turning the rye to […]
May 17 – Via Zoom Welcome and Opening Thoughts for Sunday School – Scott Rohrer Scott was not only in charge of opening for Sunday school, he is also part of our tech team who was dealing with a variety of technical issues due to a recent upgrade from Zoom. How good to know that […]
It was good to see Eastern Bluebirds again. The hummingbirds are often the first bird I see in the morning and the last one in the evening. It looks like it is time to refill the orange with grape jelly as the oriole is working hard to find some. Thank you for the jelly. I […]
We were told that temperatures were going to get down to freezing and some areas would get snow during the night, so I was not surprised to see our morning landscape powdered with snow. The grosbeaks – who just migrated into our area – must have thought, “What have I gotten into by flying north?” […]
Friday, May 8 and Saturday, May 9 Cerwin received a gift card to Tractor Supply for his birthday, and encouraged me to buy “stuff” for the birds. I liked this feeder that holds round, stacking suet “wheels.” The top wheel is mealy worms and the bottom one is a variety of bird seed. It didn’t […]
Tuesday May 5 Repairing the dairy barn roof. It was damaged several months ago during a wind storm. One hour later it looked like this. White-crowned Sparrow. I don’t see them very often. Male Rose-breasted Grosbeak Drinking from the hummingbird moat. Female Rose-breasted Grosbeak Young Amish man in an open Amish carriage. I think the […]
May 13 – via Zoom Opening Thoughts by Dave Wenger I will hear what God the Lord will speak, for He will speak peace to His people and to His saints, but let them not turn back to folly. Psalm 85:8 New King James Children’s Story – Dustin Martin I am looking for Leroy – […]
Thursday, May 7 The day after doing the first patio cleanup of the season, I noticed several large anthills. I guess they didn’t like that I got a lot of water in their under-the-patio house. I asked Cerwin if he still had ant poison. The day after he sprinkled it around the ant hills I […]
