Road Trip Day 1
~~~ Monday, July 26 ~~~ On Sunday evening, as we were preparing suitcases and other things for leaving the next day, I noticed a beautiful evening sky and went outside to capture some pictures. It was the pretty sunset in the west that enhanced the eastern sky in the first three pictures. After a good […]
Catching Up Before a Road Trip
~~~ I am posting a variety of pictures I took a few days before we left on a road trip. ~~~ Our shellbark and hickory trees are producing many nuts that should feed our squirrels for the winter. We always have trouble identifying which is which because both seem to be a different variety of […]
Yard Work
~~~ Monday, July 19 ~~~ About this time every year – when the daisies are finished blooming – Cerwin uses our hedge trimer to cut the daisies, daylilies and Hosta down to just an inch or two above ground level. We learned to do this several years ago, then in about two or three weeks, […]
Green in Our Yard
One day last week I walked around our yard looking for something pretty. Most of the flowers are beyond pretty or are not yet blooming, so I focused on the green plants. Some yellow also showed up. 🙂 There were also shades of blue. Colorful flowers are pretty, but so is green.
Supper at Red Robin with the Zook’s
~~~ Wednesday Evening, July 21 ~~~ This was our second trip to Hershey last week. We drove through a downpour, then saw a beautiful double rainbow as we approached the restaurant. The Hershey Kiss light posts are a good indication that we are in Hershey. This time we were eating out with Glendon and Denise […]
Lunch at Yoder’s with Friends
~~~ Wednesday, July 21 ~~~ It is not unusual to follow a horse and buggy on the way to Yoder’s in New Holland. The color tells me there is a Mennonite family inside. Amish buggies are a dark gray, not black. Sam was the first to get his meal because he and Barb went to […]
Pie Week
I found it interesting that three people brought us a pie or slices of pie this week. Guess who is the happiest about this – my sweet-tooth husband. 🙂 Sunday afternoon our daughter-in-law Chris brought us a pecan pie she bought at the Haiti Benefit Auction the day before. The next day my sister Nancy […]
Devon Seafood & Steak with Grandchildren
~~~ Monday Evening, July 19 ~~~ Shortly after passing the sign that said we were entering Hershey, a doe ran across the road in front of us. Her fawn didn’t follow immediately, but we slowed down figuring it would soon make a dash for it – and it did. We were pleased that the traffic […]
Beautiful Corn Tassels
~~~ Monday, July 19 ~~~ Remember when I posted (about a week ago) that the corn was getting tall and it wasn’t even in tassel yet? Rain-13.jpg (1900×1267) (wp.com) Well, it is in beautiful tassel now. Maybe it’s because I was thinking about tassels, that I am noticing them in a special way this year. […]
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker
I don’t see many of these, so have to settle for these pictures I took several months ago on a day when she wasn’t in good lighting. I am assuming it is a she because I can’t see any red markings under the beak. I found some interesting facts about these birds from the internet: […]
Potter’s House Pork Roast
~~~ Saturday, July 17 ~~~ Sometime toward the end of the week, Cerwin and I were discussing that we had a totally open weekend – nothing on our schedule. A short time later we talked to our friend Sam Rittenhouse who said they were coming to Brownstown for The Potter’s House Pork Roast at noon […]
Mushrooms & Moon
~~~ Thursday Evening, July 15 and Friday Morning, July 16 ~~~ As we were coming home from Bible School, we drove by a place with a bunch of mushrooms in their front lawn. Cerwin said, “We have some too – beside the garage.” Sure enough there was a fairy ring. A fairy ring is a […]
Grey Catbirds
I miss seeing birds at our feeders since I stopped feeding them the other week – due to a request from a government program wanting to stop the gathering of various birds at feeders to stop a disease that is killing them. However, I am glad I have filed pictures in name groupings for the […]
Bible School
“Tracking Down the One True God” has given our Bible School Superintendents and teachers the opportunity turn this year’s Bible School in to a week of mystery. We arrived early last night so I could get pictures of the Bible School rooms before the children were there. There was a teacher in the room when […]
Duck Donuts and Bur-Pak Family Foods
~~~ Wednesday, July 14 ~~~ I was out of the house early on Wednesday, because I had an 8 AM appointment at our family practice laboratory in Lititz for a routine blood test – in preparation for my yearly checkup next week. I came home, enjoyed a few sips of coffee and a slice of […]
