~~~ Wednesday, April 28 ~~~ By the end of April, I could tell that we were going to have beautiful blooms this year. ~~~ Saturday, May 8 ~~~ I think every bud bloomed this year. So much beauty!
~~~ Tuesday May 11 ~~~ Putting manure on the field next to our house. These photos were taken two days before the silo was taken down – the reason it is still in the background. 🙂 ~~~ Planting Corn – Thursday, May 13 ~~~ This field is also owned by the homestead, but is across […]

~~~ Monday, May 17 ~~~ The delightful day happened because our daughter Diane is here from Maine. She arrived on Sunday evening and will be here for three-weeks – to welcome a new grandbaby (not yet here), for a niece’s wedding and to attend a family get-together and her dad’s 80th birthday party. Diane and […]
~~~ Wednesday, May 19 ~~~ I smiled when I noticed this Mourning Dove land in the flower bed and immediately go into sunbathing mode. It is an incredibly beautiful day here in Lancaster County. After watching it for a bit, I became concerned that it wasn’t sunbathing, but had something wrong with it. I tapped […]
~~~ Photos taken on Thursday, May 6 ~~~ I always look forward to when our Lily of the Valley bloom each spring – just to smell them. When googling Lily of the Valley, I learned that it is highly poisonous if consumed by humans or animals. If I knew this, I forgot. Thankfully, I didn’t […]
~~~ Photos from Thursday, May 13 ~~~ Ascension day is when some church’s in our area commemorate Jesus’s physical ascension to heaven. This religious holiday falls 40 days after Easter Sunday. In our area of Lancaster County, the Amish are best known for celebrating the day by closing their businesses and spending time with friends […]
~~~ Wednesday Evening, May 12 – for Lauree and Jenna’s 2021 birthdays ~~~ The view from my seat at our table. Jenna was the one corresponding with me concerning date, location, and time. She chose the patio. Because I made the reservations and we are not totally comfortable with the parking in downtown Lancaster, we […]
These are a short-lived flower. If I miss getting photos when they are blooming, I don’t get a second chance. The scientific name for the bleeding heart plant is Lamprocapnos spectabilis. I think I will stick with bleeding heart. It’s easier to pronounce. 🙂 The flowers are rather fragile and hang in rows on arching […]
~~~ Photos from Tuesday, May 11 and Thursday, May 13 ~~~ Our view of the homestead changed this week when the 60-year-old-silo was taken down. Franklin Silo Repair had a lot of prep work to do on Tuesday. Notice the dust coming out of the top of the silo. That is about all I saw […]
~~~ Sunday Evening, May 9 ~~~ We were just a mile from home when two large birds flew away from eating roadkill. I called our son Jere and said, “There are eagles on the road in front of your house.” We are used to seeing turkey buzzards, but were surprised to see bald eagles. We […]
~~~ Mother’s Day ~~~ Part of me feels bad that our children and grandchildren think they need to get me something for Mother’s Day, but the other part of me enjoys it. 🙂 There were promises of a “meal out” and “we need to do something together in the near future.” A rose from church […]
~~~ Photos taken on Sunday, May 9 ~~~ When we arrived at their house, I noticed five pretty pots of flowers on the deck table. My first thought was that each of their five children gave Chris flowers for Mother’s Day, then because they were similar, I thought maybe they were gifts for their married […]
~~~ Tuesday, April 20 ~~~ The neighborhood farmers were busy cutting rye on a cool, sunny day. ~~~ The Next Day, Wednesday, April 21 ~~~ Neighbors A broad view of the three fields from our yard – left, center, right ~~~ Thursday, April 22 ~~~ Tedding the rye (stirring it up) so it dries better. […]
