Our Sunday School Class at White Oak was invited to an indoor picnic in the church fellowship hall – by the Helping Hands Class.

Each of our Sunday school classes is by age. We are the oldest, so they planned a lot of fun things for us to do to take us back to our childhood.

We could all remember penny candy.

It was fun to get a little brown bag and fill it with our choice of candy.

Our class waited and visited in the background, chose penny candy, or tried to guess how many pieces of a snack were inside the three jars next to the candy table while our host class put finishing touches on the meal.

The tables were beautifully decorated.

Outside the energy from Kevin Longenecker’s hit and miss engine and rig prepared homemade ice cream.

We were called to a buffet lunch about 11:35 am

Matt Diffenderfer (son of John and Kathy) prepared the delicious pulled pork. Dessert consisted of cookies, bar cookies, homemade ice cream (with fresh peach topping).
Everything was incredibly delicious.

The people consisted of two Sunday school classes, the host class’s Sunday school teachers, and a few visitors.
After the meal, we played a game with all the makes of candy that were there. There were 18 questions. Most of us did not do very well with getting the answers. I think a few people got 5 or 6 correct answers. I will give a few sample questions.
First manufactured in England in 1937; an advertising slogan for this candy asked, Do you love anyone enough to give them your last ________. Rollos
In the early 1920’s an employee of the Hershey Company made them in his basement. Reese’s Peanut Buttercups
It isn’t known when this type of candy first appeared. There is a legend that a variation of this candy was used by a choirmaster in the 1600’s to keep the children quiet in church. Peppermint sticks

Lastly, those who chose a number closest to the number of items in the three jars (without going over) received their prize. My sister-in-law Brenda won the jar of pretzels and this jar of mixed snacks. She asked them to give this one to the runner-up. It was me. So, we are enjoying these this week.
It was certainly a delicious and fun afternoon.
That does look like fun!
We had a great time of fellowship which is why it was planned.
