Ants and Cherry Blossoms

Thursday, May 7 The day after doing the first patio cleanup of the season, I noticed several large anthills. I guess they didn’t like that I got a lot of water in their under-the-patio house. I asked Cerwin if he still had ant poison. The day after he sprinkled it around the ant hills I […]

Female Cardinal Cardinal Male Catbird. I discovered they enjoy grape jelly as much as the orioles. I noticed some red feathers under his tail, so Googled catbird – and they do have red feathers under their tail. There is always something to learn. 🙂 As far as I can tell, this is a female cowbird. Campfire on Dustan and Jenna’s Patio

Saturday Evening, May 2 The highlight of the evening – especially for Jade – was her new-for-her sliding board. She was a bit unsure of sliding at first and wanted her grandma (Chris) helping in the back and her mom (Jenna) at the bottom. At first she always fell toward her right instead of waiting […]

May 10 – Mother’s Day Opening Thoughts for Sunday School – Matt Patches Matt read the suggested scripture for the International Sunday school lesson Zechariah 8:18-23 – “Promising Peace” – even though we would not be studying that particular subject. However, peace certainly fits into a study on mothers. Whether we identify with Zerubbabel in […]

Friday, May 1 I didn’t realize it was so breezy until I went outside to get a few pictures. Cherry blossoms were flying around like pink snow. Our driveway was lined with lots of pink. Our oldest azalea bush was in full bloom. Most of our tulips we finished blooming, but I still found a […]

Mother’s Day

Sunday, May 12 I am going to start by saying, Mother’s Day is not my favorite day of the year. I really don’t look forward to it and don’t like having attention focused on me. I prefer celebrating my birthday, because I had nothing to do with my birth. I enjoy celebrating my life and […]

Manure and Rain

Thursday, April 30 I wasn’t surprised to see the large manure spreader early (7 am) the day after the rye harvest. It was a perfect morning to work on emptying the lagoon. We were supposed to get a lot of rain by afternoon. That is good fertilizer for the next crop. The rain arrived just […]

Rye Harvest on the Homestead

Wednesday, April 29 I heard the sound of machinery and noticed that the rye harvest was beginning. An empty truck coming to replace the full one. The rye had been cut a few days earlier during a time of cool weather and poor drying, so the rye had been spread out to dry and our […]

Saturday Evening, April 25 It was one of our first times out of the house to see any of our children since this virus started. Chris’ sister-in-law Amy and brother, Dave, had a pig stomach to bake (sausage and potatoes stuffed in the stomach) and wanted to share it with them and their mother, Lois. […]

Martin Water was here to see what is going on with our water conditioning system. It was running way to often. These guys are the best. My husband, Cerwin, and I have four children, seventeen grandchildren (two are in Heaven), and twenty-two great grandchildren. Cerwin spent 40 years as a truck driver for Ferrellgas. We are both retired from serving with Transport For Christ - a ministry to truck drivers - and love our life in rural Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
