Thursday, July 9 Isn’t it amazing what happens to your food cravings when you are listening to the morning news on July 9 and the anchor mentions that this is National Sugar Cookie Day! Then I remembered that I still had sugar cookies in the freezer – from when Diane was here and we went […]
Wednesday, July 8 Remember in yesterday’s post I said we only had a small amount of rain on Monday, July 6? Well, we got a fabulous rain two days later. The crops will be liking this and creating a good root system. It wasn’t a good day for relaxing in my patio chair. Hummingbirds seem […]
Monday, July 6 Deb gave be a bottle of “Extra Sweet” Tea at our July 4 celebration. She knows me well. Extra Sweet is my style. 🙂 We were pleased to see storm clouds by the evening of July 6. As thunderstorms go, some areas got a lot more rain than we did – but […]
Friday, July 3 This is what I saw at 3:30 am when I walked outside to take in the early morning beauty. Yes, I know 3:30 am is early, but I love mornings and am often sleeping by 9:00 pm. A full moon certainly gets your attention on a clear, warm morning when the sky […]
My Dad as a preschooler. Daddy as a student at Locust Grove School – a one-room school that is a residence today and right next to our property. He told me that he didn’t enjoy school very much and would have preferred working on his parent’s farm – the Homestead next to us that is […]
These are fairly invasive and spread quickly, but work perfectly in our woodlot memory garden. From the Internet: The Gooseneck flower (Lysimachia clethroides) is native to East Asia. Gooseneck loosestrife is a 24-to-30-inch foot tall, fast-spreading, herbaceous perennial in the primrose family. Plants continue flowering as long as the soil stays moist and temperatures do […]
July 12 Sunday School Everyone was in the sanctuary for Sunday school, which was set up for the purpose of giving each of us – especially the children – a feel of having been to Bible School since it had to be cancelled due to the virus. We sang lots of fun and meaningful Bible […]
Friday, July 3 I woke up with the need to go somewhere. I think the fact that we cannot go to Belgium this summer is in my subconscious and I was feeling sorry for myself for missing out on a vacation. 🙂 Where could we go on a short road trip? Then I got a […]
Thursday, July 2 It was a beautiful morning to have coffee and an egg sandwich on our patio. I took these pictures between 6:35 am and 7:15 am. My broad view toward the south. Our two, very tall shellbark trees. The sky was clear and blue. Blackbirds and robins were out looking for breakfast. Several […]
We are blessed to live about a mile from a bison farm and recently learned that they have meat for sale. Cerwin stopped in the other day to purchase a pack of sweet bologna and bison burgers. It is a very lean meat and delicious. If you live in the area this is their contact […]
Wednesday, July 1 Our driveway flowerbed is at its height of summer beauty with Shasta Daisies, Daylilies and blooming Hosta. The crepe myrtle (red leaves) will bloom later and probably be the only thing blooming in this bed by the end of August. Pretty Hosta flowers Yellow Daylilies The Shasta Daisies are what one notices […]
We love you! Grandpa and Grandma
Wednesday, July 1 Some evenings I enjoy a walk outside before going to bed. Yes, I go to bed early. ? Notice the moon? The sky was particularly pretty on this evening. When I have the opportunity to see beautiful clouds, sunrises or sunsets, I am reminded that I have the same beautiful view as wealthy […]
Thursday, June 25 through Wednesday, July 8 This is what the plants looked like two weeks ago – Thursday, June 25. This is when cultivating can be done – before there are vines all over the field. I read somewhere that mules are better to use for cultivating than horses, because mules are careful where […]
July 5 Sunday School – Teacher – Steve Hershey Subject – Vindicating Wisdom – Matthew 11:7-19 What can we learn about wisdom in the Gospels – especially from John the Baptist? Wouldn’t it have been wiser for John the Baptist to cut a deal with the authorities instead of ending up in prison and eventually […]
Sunday Lunch, June 28 Jere borrowed our three canopies so we could be on their deck for lunch. They have lots of “bug protectors”, so our food was safe from flies and bugs before we sat down at the table. I always enjoy seeing what the children choose for their birthday meal. Jesse chose waffles. […]
We love you! Grandpa and Grandma High
We love you! Daddy and Mother High
Saturday We started our day by having a delicious brunch on Marlin and Nancy’s delightful enclosed deck. We and three of my siblings (it didn’t suit Clair and Kate) had so much fun reminiscing and catching up on each others lives. On the two-mile drive home I noticed a beautiful red-tailed hawk sitting on a […]
