Good Shepherd Chapel

~~~
When walking toward Josh, Jere, Kristen, and Austin, who were waiting to enter the chapel, Jack and Jean Winters (who were standing next to them) said, “Cerwin and Doris High!” Jere and Kristen had made small talk with them but had not yet connected that they knew us, so Jere’s were surprised that they knew us, and Jack and Jean were surprised that Jere was our son. 🙂 We know Jack and Jean from Transport For Christ. They also had a grandchild who was graduating.
Since Jere, Kristen, Josh and Austin had received Jana’s initial allotted 4 tickets, they were on the main floor. We and Austin’s parents received tickets after Jana was given an extra 4 tickets. Most of the extras were on the balcony, which turned out great for me for taking pictures. The balcony extends about halfway over the main floor, and we were in the front – almost looking down on Jana and the stage. I was still experimenting with my camera settings to adjust to the chapel’s lighting, so this first picture is a bit blurred.
Academic Awards by Tricia Wilson, MS. Provost
Valedictorian: Tanner Doyle Shertzer. Don’t stop talking about Jesus. Be salt and light.
Faculty waiting for the students to receive their degrees. Our friend from church, Larry Rohrer, is in the front row. Left. He teaches in the financial department.
Two graduating students shared their testimony and the unusual way in which they came to be students at LBC.
After receiving their degree, each student received a Servant’s Towel. A reminder that they were trained to go out into the world to serve.
Jana (center) in line to receive her diploma. Her friend Caitlin is in front of her.
Jana’s gold stole means she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a GPA of 3.90-4.00. White means Magna Cum Laude (GPA of 3.75-3.89). Red means Cum Laude (GPA of 3.50-3.74).
We had been waiting for this moment when she stood next to the red banner waiting for Provost Wilson to say her name Jana Rae High-Garber.
Receiving her Master of Arts Degree
Standing for the recessional.
Jana told her friend Caitlin to look up because Grandma was taking a picture. We met Caitlin several times during the past five years when Jana invited her to a family meal or excursion.
After coming down from the balcony and trying to get our bearings and find Jana and her parents, I noticed the students were walking out not far from me – and just like that she was in front of me! Love this picture.
Because I took so many pictures, I will post the last half in my next entry.
