Traveling Home – Morehead, KY to Manheim, PA

We enjoyed breakfast in the motel where we met a couple from York County, PA, who knew a few of our friends. They were heading to The Ark and Creation Museum.

We got to the West Virginia border about hour after leaving the motel.

It was a beautiful morning to be traveling on I-79 and I-68 through West Virginia.

We were enjoying the beauty of West Virginia when a wild turkey suddenly flew between the hood of our car and the windshield. We are still praising the Lord that it didn’t hit our window. It happened so fast that we didn’t have time to be frightened.

The picture below is similar to what we saw for a few seconds.

I did some research on wild turkeys hitting car windows and discovered some serious car damage, broken windows – even a tractor trailer accident. Several people were hospitalized after a turkey hit their car window.

We were probably driving 60+ MPH since we were on an interstate, so that turkey had to be flying very fast. Google tells us they can fly up to 55 MPH.

Lunchtime

It’s always good to see a welcome sign of our home state when we have been away for a few days.

Our GPS took us from I-68 to 220 North – to the Pennsylvania Turnpike at Bedford.

This was my favorite part of Tuesday’s drive since this route took us through the countryside.

We saw lots of old barns and buildings on this trip, but they were often too far away from the interstate for me to get a drive-by photo.

This barn and truck could probably tell many stories.

I never tire of seeing cattle in fields and on hillsides. Seeing animals in fields and in the wild often remind me of Psalm 50:10-11.

Every animal in the forest belongs to me, and so do the cattle on a thousand hills. I know all the birds in the mountains, and every wild creature is in my care. (He certainly took care of that turkey this morning.) 🙂

Everyone who travels the Pennsylvania Turnpike – between the Lancaster/Lebanon Interchange and the Somerset Interchange – will go through 4 tunnels. Because we got on the pike at Bedford, we only went through three.

As we crossed the Susquehanna River a plane flew overhead as the pilot prepared to land at the Harrisburg International Airport. It felt very familiar, because we have used this airport many times.

Though we had a great trip and were delighted to be at Heze and Kayla’s wedding, it was good to be home and see our azalea in full bloom.
