Mother’s Day

Sunday, May 12 I am going to start by saying, Mother’s Day is not my favorite day of the year. I really don’t look forward to it and don’t like having attention focused on me. I prefer celebrating my birthday, because I had nothing to do with my birth. I enjoy celebrating my life and […]

Manure and Rain

Thursday, April 30 I wasn’t surprised to see the large manure spreader early (7 am) the day after the rye harvest. It was a perfect morning to work on emptying the lagoon. We were supposed to get a lot of rain by afternoon. That is good fertilizer for the next crop. The rain arrived just […]

Rye Harvest on the Homestead

Wednesday, April 29 I heard the sound of machinery and noticed that the rye harvest was beginning. An empty truck coming to replace the full one. The rye had been cut a few days earlier during a time of cool weather and poor drying, so the rye had been spread out to dry and our […]

Saturday Evening, April 25 It was one of our first times out of the house to see any of our children since this virus started. Chris’ sister-in-law Amy and brother, Dave, had a pig stomach to bake (sausage and potatoes stuffed in the stomach) and wanted to share it with them and their mother, Lois. […]

May 3 – Via Zoom Opening Thoughts for Sunday School – Scott Rohrer His children miss the singing in Sunday school and church, so he asked Josh Diffenderfer to lead a sing-along – encouraging families to sing along with these familiar songs. Josh Diffenderfer Josh’s family joined him in singing this song, Unto Thee Oh […]

Pretty Pictures from a Stormy Day

Friday, April 24 Storm clouds were still swirling – when I went outside to take these pictures. Our azalea bush was just beginning to bloom. We have four dogwood trees – three that we planted and one that is native to our woodlot. Some of our tulips are over-the-hill while others are in full bloom. […]

Martin Water was here to see what is going on with our water conditioning system. It was running way to often. These guys are the best. Well, that at least helped us figure out what to do with a portion of our government stimulus check. 🙂 Meanwhile, someone at the “homestead” was cutting their grass. […]

Friday, May 1 It was a beautiful day after the rain, maybe that was part of the reason there was a great variety of birds at our feeders. However, May is always my favorite month for watching birds. Some are migrating and others have returned for the summer and fall. I was surprised to see […]

My husband, Cerwin, and I have four children, seventeen grandchildren (two are in Heaven), and twenty-two great grandchildren. Cerwin spent 40 years as a truck driver for Ferrellgas. We are both retired from serving with Transport For Christ - a ministry to truck drivers - and love our life in rural Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
