Roy’s 60th Birthday Supper

My post will now go back to when life was a bit more normal – before Hannah’s memorial services overtook our lives.

We had planned this supper a week or two earlier. After Hannah’s death on the 4th, Deb asked if we wanted to keep this appointment.

I replied, “Of course we want to keep the appointment.” My mind went back to one of Elizabeth Elliots quotes for when life interrupts your plans.

Do the Next Thing.

In other words, don’t let painful circumstances stop you in your tracks – leading to depression and pity parties. Take the next step. Do the next thing. Keeping moving forward in faith. God and “doing the next thing” kept me moving forward during the past week.

We met Roy, Deb and his mom, Barb at Harvest Restaurant (about halfway between our houses).

We shared an appetizer of bread, vegetables and humus.

None of us had ever been here, so we took time to enjoy the atmosphere. Our waitress was one of the best, which helped to make the evening a great experience.

Cerwin declared his steak as one of the best he has ever eaten. Roy and Deb also had steaks and agreed.

Barb and I chose seafood. My halibut is on the left and Barb’s salmon on the right. Her salmon was served on a small board.

We each chose a small dessert in a glass. Roy’s came with a candle.

We asked Barb if she remembered the experience of giving birth to him 60 years ago. She didn’t remember that anything unusual happened except she was pleased to have a son.
