Pretty Chrysanthemum and Hairy Woodpecker

When I tried to spell chrysanthemum, I understood why the name has been reduced to the nickname “mum”. 🙂

I bought this mum last fall so there would some beauty at our front door after the summer flowers in the doorway pot were no longer looking pretty.

I was surprised that it survived the winter and when it was time to put summer flowers in the pot, I moved it to the patio flower/birdfeeder garden. By the end of summer it was filled with buds that opened into these beautiful burgundy flowers.

I was pleased to see this pretty Hairy Woodpecker. I don’t see them as often at the smaller, similar Downy Woodpecker.
