Our Journey Home from Bryce Canyon – Day 13

Tuesday, September 10 – Lafayette, Indiana to Youngstown, Ohio

As you can see, it was a beautiful morning when we left our motel in Lafayette – about 7:50 am.

I love when the GPS puts us on a back road and takes us through local towns. My notes tell me we were going through Huntington, Indiana, in this photo. We enjoyed seeing six turkeys in a field shortly after leaving this town – and later there were two deer in a nearby field.

We stopped at the Beaver Dam #2 Chapel (FaithLife Center) at the Flying J in Ohio.

We had a good visit with Chaplain Larry.

Next we went across the street to Pilot Travel Center to see Beaverdam #1. There was no one on duty. When a chaplain cannot be there – they usually leave contact information or a time he will return.

We drove by farmland that looked dry.

Fifteen minutes later we saw a lush field of soybeans that was beginning to ripen.

Our last FaithLife Center stop was at the TA Travel Center, Seville, Ohio, near Lodi. Cerwin was interested in seeing this one as it had been recently moved here from Hudson, Wisconsin. There was a very old rig here, so when a newer one had to be moved, this was a perfect location.

We had a great visit with Chaplain Mike and his cute rescue dog. I love her pretty eyes. She likes attention and seemed to enjoy when I scratched her back and belly.

A driver stopped in while we were there. Chaplains are encouraged to pray with every driver. We left shortly after this prayer so the driver could have a private conversation with Chaplain Mike.

As we proceeded east on I-80 we passed this rig with LOTS of axles.

Again, we were reminded of our great privilege to be living in the USA.

It was 84 degrees when we arrived at our motel in Youngstown and our trip mileage was 5,045 miles.

We walked across the parking lot to a Bob Evan’s Restaurant.

I often eat a salad or light meal of vegetables after we get to our motel, but on this evening their senior menu offered fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy – and got my attention. Oh, my! It was so delicious and will go into the list of my five favorite meals on this trip.
