Our Journey to Bryce Canyon – Day 1

Thursday, August 29 – Home to South Indianapolis, Indiana

When you travel with us you have to get up early. 🙂 We planned to get up at 3 am, but I woke up at 2:45 to hear Cerwin already walking around the house.

We were on the road by 4:25 and already going through the last Pennsylvania Turnpike tunnel by 6:45.

I love watching a day come alive.

Morning is a good time to see deer in Pennsylvania. We saw a total of eight enjoying breakfast near the road.

Our first stop was for breakfast in Somerset, PA.

I asked the hostess why there is an elephant in their parking lot. She said it used to advertise a nearby elephant sanctuary, but since the location is no longer open to the public, they needed a parking lot to keep the elephant.

My delicious breakfast included rye toast – the best rye toast I have ever tasted.

Traveling this route is familiar to us, so I didn’t take many pictures, but enjoyed listening to music CD/DVD’s we had along.

I love this song by these two artists – and played repeat to listen a second time.

If I remember correctly, we saw this pretty cross just before entering Indiana.

As we traveled, I thought about the blessing of our fabulous interstate system – even though there is always construction, it is a blessing to have these roads for a fairly quick trip to the west.

Our last stop for the day was at a motel in South Indianapolis.
