Female Downy Woodpecker
Yesterday I moved a suet feeder close to our kitchen window so I can get close-up woodpecker pictures. It worked! I never tire of watching them.

A few of my favorites – when our children were young. ~~~ I am about three-fourth finished with changing our old slides into digital pictures. My goal is to finish this job by the end of January. Our family in 1975: Diane, Jere, Deb, Me, Cerwin, Jeff My cousin Barry and Jeff at the Miller’s hunting cabin – […]
Before I started watching and photographing our birds, I used to think these were ordinary birds. They aren’t as colorful as some, but I love their feather pattern. Then God said, “Let the water be filled with living things. And let birds fly in the air above the earth.” So God created great sea animals, […]
Oh what fun to keep our great-grandson for four days last week while his parents ministered to others at a conference. Some pictures from our week… On day one we spent time in the office, so we had envelopes for the mailbox. Since we already had our coats on, we filled a few birdfeeders. He makes me smile. Putting […]
Wednesday, January 11 The ice was beautiful on Wednesday morning, so I went outside – barefooted and still in my housecoat to get a few pictures from the porch. Before I knew it I slid off the porch and unto the patio. 🙂 …and I thought the porch was just wet. It wasn’t easy to get on my […]
Monday, January 9 A beautiful sunrise There was time to watch the birds. Then I saw a neighborhood cat – very focused on something. I suspected it was a bird, but was surprised when it took off after a squirrel. 🙂 I wish I had been prepared to capture the chase. It wasn’t successful, but hid under the patio […]
Sunday, January 8 The Pennsylvania Truck Rally Committee met on Sunday afternoon to fine-tune details for this year’s rally on Saturday, June 24. There were lots of good ideas for continuing to make it a special day to honor the drivers and their family. Our son Jere and his wife, Kristen, oversee this meeting and […]

Friday and Saturday – January 6 & 7 Snow on the ground Clouds and geese in the sky Birds on our feeders I love road trips, vacations and visiting our Maine family, but it is good to be home and back in the routine of life again.
We love you, Grandpa & Grandma High
Thursday, January 5 We left the Myers’ house shortly about 6:30 am and were soon heading south on the interstate. Sunrise created a pretty silhouette of these buildings. Leaving Maine By 8:15 we were at our usual stop for fuel and a McDonalds breakfast sandwich. I think we have been stopping at this exit for thirty years. […]
Wednesday evening January 4 – our last evening in Maine Our son-in-law Mark enjoys roasting his own coffee and gave us a demonstration – then gave the coffee to us. 🙂 He has perfected the process quite well. They buy the beans green and roast them in an old popcorn popper – one that he keeps turning […]
Wednesday, January 4 Lydia and Hannah came over to enjoy the morning with us. Elizabeth stopped by on the way to work – to say goodbye because we were leaving Thursday morning. Someone thought I should take a foot shot since we were all in pretty socks – except Hannah. 🙂 Clockwise from me in the […]
Tuesday, January 3 I took pictures of these seed pods on a bush near Mark and Diane’s driveway while waiting for everyone to get to the car to begin our morning shopping trip. I have no idea what kind of bush it is, but thought these seed pods are rather pretty. Hannah was looking for sneakers – […]
Monday, January 2 After our visit to Cabela’s in Scarborough we enjoyed a delicious early lunch at Famous Dave’s BBQ at the other end of the parking lot. A patron saw me taking the previous picture and offered to take one with me in it. Diane’s lunch Hezekiah’s meal Cerwin’s chili and baked potato My […]
Monday Morning, January 2 This shot of the moon was leftover in my camera from the night before when the moon and Venus were bright in the Maine sky. Morning in the Myers’ backyard. This trip to Cabela’s in Scarborough was for Heze’s 2016 birthday. Diane asked if she could be his date. 🙂 This […]
