Another Tree Down and Snow
Monday, January 30 It makes me sad that we have to take down our pretty Ash tree (right), but it barely had leaves last summer, and Amos said there was nothing he could do for it. So he came on Monday morning to put it out of it’s misery. First he took down the small […]
Breakfast with My Sister
Monday, January 30 My sister usually takes me to Brickerville House Restaurant for breakfast sometime near my birthday. It was a bit early this year because she is very busy next week. It is one of the closest restaurants to our house – and Nancy’s. I enjoy going here because of the delicious food and interesting history. […]
Sportsman’s Dinner & Expo ~ Part 2
Saturday Evening, January 28 4:00 pm: We enjoyed a seminar by Steve Sorensen (for north western Pennsylvania) on “Choosing Quality Optics.” We learned a lot of interesting facts about optics that are used for hunting. The pastor of Grace Point Nazarene Church (Ephrata) led a prayer of blessing on the meal. 5:00 pm meal When I took […]
Sportsman’s Dinner & Expo ~ Part 1
Saturday Evening, January 28 After putting our things on seats – to save them for the program – we walked around to visit vendors and see displays. One of my first stops was with Roy Reiff (left) – a neighbor and friend who owns a hunting guide service in Montana. Before long, Larry, a friend from church stopped to talk to […]
Snow Flurry
Saturday morning, January 28 Yesterday we woke up to a light dusting of snow. I love snow, and since we are at the end of January without any snowstorms, I have to settle for flurries. 🙂 This was about all that happened. By evening most of the snow was gone from the ground.
My Mother
Happy 95th Birthday to My Mother. This picture was probably taken in 1949 when I was 5 and mother was 27. January 28 is always a day when I think about the things I would like to tell (or ask) her and everything that has happened in our family since she died at the age of 52 in 1974 […]
Crows
Yesterday I heard a loud noise outside and thought the snow geese had come. We live close enough to Middle Creek Wildlife Sanctuary that they come by our place now and then. But it was a large flock (murder) of crows. In reading about crows, I learned that they mate for life – and sometimes […]
Cousin’s Lunch
Wednesday, January 25 It was good to see a sunrise following many foggy, cloudy, rainy mornings. After getting a few things done in the office, we left for the Sauder lunch at Oregon Dairy. This was begun many years ago to get Mother High’s siblings together, and because someone had to bring most of them, it […]
Sunday Afternoon Visits
Sunday, January 22 Traveling to visit Cerwin’s Aunt Esther took us through one of my favorite areas in Lancaster County – Amish territory. I understand that most – if not all Amish buggies in our area are gray, with some black trim. A cute welcome sign near Eli and Sandy’s driveway. Eli is Aunt Esther’s son. […]
Birdfeeder Activity
Monday, January 23 Male Hairy Woodpecker Female Downy Woodpecker It’s easy to see the difference when watching them. The Hairy is about 9″ long with a long beak. The Downy is 6″ long with a short beak. This squirrel was trying to keep another squirrel from the feeder. This one eventually settled for the other […]
Ladies Fellowship ~ Part 3
Saturday, January 21 Jess introduced and prayed for Barb and Joan before they spoke to us on the subject: Joy? In This Mess! Joan (the younger sister) spoke first – giving us many reasons to smile. She and Barb took turns throughout the morning as they shared subjects like: Joy in the Mundane, Joy in […]
Ladies Fellowship ~ Part 2
Saturday, January 21 Registration with Bev and Kim Welcome and instructions by Bev Prayer for the brunch Eggs and ham Following the meal, Linnea led us in singing several songs. Joanna knew she should stop singing and smile just in case it showed up on my blog. 🙂 Jess introduced the last song in preparation for our speakers. […]
Ladies Fellowship ~ Part 1
Saturday, January 21 I looked forward to this day – to fellowship with other ladies – and to hear what Barb and Joan (sisters) had to say. They were in the youth group when we were youth advisors back in the ’80s. This is what greeted the ladies as we arrived at the door of […]
Fog
This was our view on Wednesday morning – about 7:30 am. I enjoy gray mornings. They seem quiet and peaceful. The fog slowly lifted – between 8:00 and 8:15 am. This is almost the same view as picture #2. I enjoy that each day is a bit – or a lot – different than the […]
