Update On Cerwin’s Mother

| Uncategorized

Mother High seems to be getting weaker by the day. Today Cerwin asked if she is dreaming about Heaven these days. Her voice is now very weak, so we leaned in close to hear her say, “A lot.” He asked if she can describe Heaven. She said, “It’s difficult to describe, but it’s BEAUTIFUL.” We […]

Saturday Evening, January 30 Cerwin was intrigued by these ground blinds. It appears that they are made to house a small heater – because of the small “chimneys.” Cerwin’s is a bit more portable than these. I enjoy visiting the vendors at these events. Carvings fascinate me. These are amazing works of art. More beautiful artwork […]

Ladies Fellowship – Day of Refreshment – Part 1 of 2

Saturday, January 30 White Oak Church of the Brethren I always enjoy seeing how the hospitality committee decorates the narthex and fellowship hall for the refreshments and lunch. This year the decorating theme was pine boughs. Refreshments before the morning program. Korina was overseeing this table. This is where you got your program and name tags if […]

A Good Visit With Mother High

Mother seemed to be in a deep sleep when we arrived just before noon yesterday, but I kept gently touching her face and arm. She kind of mumbled, so I knew she was hearing me.  Before long she said she needed to go to the bathroom. I put the call bell close to her hand and […]

Shoveling Snow & Golden Sunset

Tuesday, January 26 – a few days after the big snow. Cerwin was concerned about the amount of snow on the roof, so pushed it to the ground – which meant the boys had to shovel again. 🙂 Their big brother Josh (left) and his friend Sam arrived to hang out in the man cave […]

Self-pity

Did you ever – or do you struggle with self-pity? I have. I expect everyone has – to some degree. Self-pity is a bit different than depression, but can lead to depression.   Self-pity focuses on self. Depression focuses on sadness.   Continual self-pity is a lifestyle of being consumed with self. It is a […]

More Pictures From the Big Snow

Monday, January 25 This is what the morning sun looked like on the icicles hanging from the edge of our house roof – two days after the snow in late January. Shadows on the snow. Traffic was moving again, but schools were still closed. The icicles looked white and cold at noon. Cerwin asked the boys to […]

Day After The Big Snow

Sunday, January 24 Enjoy the scenes from the day after our big snow – more than two weeks ago. A view outside our dining area window. Our crepe myrtle bush – deep in the snow. I brought the tray to the surface once again, added some black oil sunflower seed and a suet block. A junco […]

This morning we sang a song in church that I have not heard in a long time. It took me back many years – to August 1968 – when it was sung at my Grandpa Hawthorne’s funeral. (He is my mother’s father.) It was mentioned as one of his favorite songs. That is when the song Ivory Palaces also […]

The Big Snow – Evening

Saturday, January 23 I opened a garage door to see the back yard – facing east. Another garage door – facing north. Looking out a front window – facing south. The birds are standing around a tray of birdseed – on a bush – already covered with snow. A snowdrift sliding off our roof. The large tree […]

Update on Mother High

Mother has gone through several ups and downs since her hospital visit in early January. Her “trouble spot” right now is her toes where she has severe pain due to lack of circulation. That is happening because she can no longer walk. The nurses and caregivers at Landis Homes are doing a fabulous job of […]

My husband, Cerwin, and I have four children, seventeen grandchildren (two are in Heaven), and twenty-two great grandchildren. Cerwin spent 40 years as a truck driver for Ferrellgas. We are both retired from serving with Transport For Christ - a ministry to truck drivers - and love our life in rural Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
