Tomato-Soup-Kind-of-Day

| Winter

Thursday, January 18 As I watched the female Red-bellied Woodpecker on this cold, wintry morning, I thought, “This would be a good day to make a pot of tomato soup.” I had some tomatoes left over from the High family lunch and boiled them so I could easily remove the skin. Then I went to […]

Processing Highway News

Thursday, January 18 We usually invite two people to come to our office to help us label and prepare the individual Highway News for mailing. But, since Cerwin is not building a chapel this winter, he has extra time – and we don’t have to ask friends to go out in the cold, wintry weather. […]

Day After the Snow

Wednesday, January 17 These pictures follow last nights shots of the nighttime snow. This is what it looked like in the morning. The township snowplows went by several times during the day. I love a snowy day – when I can stay at home.

Sunday, January 14 The tables are set and ready for our guests – Cerwin’s siblings and their families were coming to see Bob and Doris (Cerwin’s sister) who were visiting from Minnesota. Cerwin and I provided soup (cheeseburger and chili con carne) and sandwiches. The others brought the rest of the items. Somebody brought these […]

The Suet Ring is Gone

Saturday, January 13 The birds continued to eliminate the seeds on the suet ring until one windy, rainy night, we woke up to nothing but rope. The remaining seeds were on the ground. The birds had to look elsewhere for their seeds. This blue jay looked almost golden during the morning sunrise. Soaking in the […]

Wednesday, January 10 I enjoyed watching a squirrel crawling out on a limb to get shellbark nuts. Because of the morning sun, the photo came out like a silhouette. Look at the three different positions of its tale. You can tell it knew I was watching. Its tail was constantly twitching. A bit later it […]

Fun with Anthony

Tuesday, January 9 We had fun watching our great-grandson Anthony for a few hours. He came with a backpack full of animals. He said the raccoon (which he is holding) is his favorite. He loves watching story videos. We watched a really fun one where the puppies and pigs were playing in mud and went […]

Birds & Cookies on a Snowy Day

Saturday, January 6 The goldfinches are just beginning to get their yellow winter feathers. I like that the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker keeps hanging around. This is another view of the Starling with a “bib”. With this picture I noticed that the “bib” is a bit off to the right side instead of under it’s neck. There […]

Thursday, January 4 Diane, I thought you might like to see a few birds that were enjoying the suet ring you gave me. Male cardinals look so pretty on cold, snowy days. We have a starling with a bib. Not sure if it was hatched this way or got involved in a fight. A Downy […]

Taking Care of Our Birds

Wednesday, January 3 It was the first time I saw a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker this winter – and she pointed out to me that it was time to refill the suet feeder. Empty feeders are the result of spending five days in Maine. 🙂 This was a gift to me – from Mark and Diane – […]

Tuesday, January 2 It was a cold, clear morning when we left Mark and Diane’s house at 6:45. We could see the sun coming up just over the horizon. The world was coming alive on I-95. The super moon was low in the sky in the west. The sunrise was beginning to lighten the sky […]

My husband, Cerwin, and I have four children, seventeen grandchildren (two are in Heaven), and twenty-two great grandchildren. Cerwin spent 40 years as a truck driver for Ferrellgas. We are both retired from serving with Transport For Christ - a ministry to truck drivers - and love our life in rural Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.
