Sunday School – Subject: David’s House

2 Samuel 7:1-17, 24:18-25, 1 Chronicles 17:1-15 and 21

Teacher: John Diffenderfer

God used David to develop His plan for humanity – to build a group of people – a “house” for an eternal kingdom.

David’s “house” or lineage is a picture of God’s redeeming love.

Redeeming is like going to a pawn shop and buying something that you had previously owned.

Worship Service

Minister: Glendon Zook (preaching his first sermon)

He opened by saying he quickly learned that the ministry team at White Oak desires that we thrive individually and as a congregation.

His desire is the same – and that we will see Jesus each time he preaches.

He said it was overwhelming to hear about the number of sermons our ministers preach by the time they retire. One mentioned preaching 800 sermons.

“Well if I am going to preach 800 sermons, I better get started with sermon number one.”

Subject: John 11:1-57 – the story of Lazarus

Jesus, Why Didn’t You Come Sooner?

Maybe you, like Mary and Martha, feel the pain of a situation that seems to be out of control.

Maybe you are begging God to come to your situation.

Maybe you are questioning God’s logic.

In this chapter we see the humanity of Jesus in his love for this family – Mary, Martha and Lazarus – and we see His deity when He raised Lazarus from the dead.

Five Reasons Why Jesus Didn’t Come Sooner?

So God would receive glory

God is also using your story for his glory.

Because it was not time

When we wait on the Lord, great things will eventually happen.

God is sovereign at all times and in all things.

So they would believe

We expect things to happen on time, but never underestimate the power of God – in His time.

Because He loved them

We sometimes question God’s love when He doesn’t show up on time.

Jesus identifies with you.

So He could give life

Lazarus had to physically die before he could be raised to life.

We must also die to sin and self before we can be raised to spiritual life.

There is no greater miracle than a person being raised to spiritual life.

If you are waiting for a miracle in your situation – take time to notice the small miracles,
