We started Cerwin’s birthday by volunteering at Blessings of Hope – the East Petersburg Warehouse – where we prepared chopped carrots and sweet potatoes for dehydration.

These will go into a dehydrated soup mix that will be sent to a variety of places around the world through the Barnabas Project.

When the vegetables were finished, we put the ingredients from damaged bags into bins, then repackaged it in plastic bags that were labeled to match the inside ingredient. On this particular day we repackaged all-purpose flour, bread flour and 10x sugar. These bags will go to locations where needed, including Blessings of Hope distribution stores where you can shop with a Blessings of Hope voucher.

By the time we finished at 11:00 am, we felt like we were powder-coated. 🙂 Each shift is 2 1/2 hours. On this day we chose the 8:30 am to 11:00 am shift.

Since we were in the Lancaster area, I suggested that we could go to Longhorn Steakhouse (his favorite steaks) for his birthday lunch. Cerwin liked that idea. He had a salad, sweet potato and 6 oz. filet mignon. I had my favorite Red Rock Shrimp over rice, plus a salad.

Because it was his birthday, he received a free ice cream dessert. The angle of my cell phone made it look extra large, but it was fairly large with enough for both of us.
