Treasure Your Life and Friendships

It was one of those times when we attended memorial/funeral/visitation services once a week for a month.

Mildred Kunkel passed away on May 10. She was the wife of one of Cerwin’s childhood friends.

Ruth Martin died suddenly on May 23. She was a former staff friend through TFC.

Lois Givler met Jesus on May 30. She was my aunt. A younger sister to my dad.

Ivan Huber, a trucker friend we knew through TFC, passed away on June 10 after a fairly short illness.

When making a list like this and attending their services, we realize again that death comes to everyone. Only my aunt was older than us.

Thus, we are reminded to treasure our life and friendships.

and to be wise in using the time which God has allotted us.

For that reason, I move on to how we used the rest of the day – after attending Ivan’s visitation on June 16.

As we traveled a back road to Ivan’s visitation on June 16, we noticed a roadside vegetable stand that we had never seen – because we rarely travel that road. We determined to stop there on the way home.

We chose strawberries and asparagus which are at the end of their season here – for this year. When preparing to pay our bill, a raspberry sweet roll cake captured our attention. I teased the clerk that they should not keep things like that near the check out. πŸ™‚ I have only a slice on the picture. Oh, my it was delicious.

After grilling the asparagus for a meal, I turned the leftovers into asparagus soup. I love asparagus soup. The strawberries were eaten fresh or with a shortcake.

It seems we are always on a time schedule, or this place is closed when we go by. We’ve heard that they have good pretzel items. This time we determined to stop in and get some items for the freezer.

I chose a stromboli (I cut it in half for the photo). Cerwin’s choice was a hot dog wrapped in a pretzel (not pictured). When I was looking at the pretzel sticks (left), I mentioned that this was our first visit. The clerk replied, “That means you get two pretzel sticks free.” That was nice. πŸ™‚

Our next stop was Applebee’s in Ephrata – which was Cerwin’s choice for a Father’s Day gift from me.

The view from our table.

I chose a chicken sandwich and Cerwin chose his favorite Applebee’s meal. Steak and mashed potatoes.

I was pleased to notice a hummingbird at the feeder shortly after we got home. We have seen so few of them this summer. I treasured the moment.
