My Birthday Week Celebration – Day 5

Cerwin asked if there is anything I wanted to do for the 5th day of my birthday week. I replied that I would like to go to Boscov’s for shoes. I recently noticed that two pair of my winter shoes were coming apart. (I don’t have that many shoes so when one pair begins looking bad, I throw them out and get a new pair.) 🙂 I actually found four pair I liked and eliminated the one I liked least. Thus, I gained a pair of winter shoes. 🙂

I had time to relax for an hour or two, before Diane took me to a discount grocery store then to meet Deb at CR Lapps near Quarryville for supper – before going to a Succulent Planting Party.

Diane’s steak and French fry salad

Deb’s cheeseburger and French fries. Deb said she rarely gets a cheeseburger with a bun, but these are homemade buns and so delicious.

My Brussels sprouts and baked potato

Notice the three forks. We shared a delicious coconut cream pie.

We left CR Lapps in time to make our appointment at the Succulent Planting Party.

This was something Deb and Lydia had originally planned to do together, then they added Diane when they realized she would be in the area. (Deb and Lydia live close together in Southern Lancaster County.) After a few days, they thought it would be a fun thing for me to do during my birthday week.

There were probably 45-50 ladies there.

Our first job was to choose a planter, two or three succulents and decorations. On the left.

The bottom stones, dirt and tools for planting were on our tables. There was a mother and daughter at our table who we did not know. We had fun being with them.

Deb and Lydia putting stones into their planters. A one-to-two-inch layer of stones is the first thing that goes into the planter – then the dirt.

Adding dirt.

Putting the finishing touches on mine. It looks like I was adding black, decorative stones.

Diane also purchased items for an air plant (above). Lydia did that as well, but I don’t have a picture of hers.

No wonder I “kill” succulents. I water them way too often.

I will try to follow directions and see if I can keep these alive.
