My Birthday Week Celebration ~ Day 1 and 2

My birthday week celebration started on Sunday when we were invited to a meal in our church fellowship hall. The meal was initiated by one of our deacons (Ryan) and his wife Jess who take their service to the church very seriously.

At the end of each year our deacons are given a list of names of church members for whom they are responsible to visit in the coming year and make sure we are doing okay in our service to the Lord, have any problems with our congregation’s setup and that our purpose is to work for the benefit of the congregation.

For their part, Ryan and Jess invite a small group of people to their house or to the fellowship hall for a meal, a time of sharing and fellowship and close by asking us to share our concerns or blessings for our congregation. They also asked us to contact them if we had concerns that we did not want to share with the group.

It was a great time of fellowship with five other households. We were encouraged to hear from each one and learn more about their hearts for the Lord.

We also learned that Ryan, Jess and their 3 boys “adopt” each person on their list for the entire year and pray for us – alternately – each morning before the boys go to school by using a card on which they have our picture, and any prayer concerns we share with them.

What a great way to begin my birthday week!

Because Cerwin and I are both retired, he is able to help me celebrate my birthday week. On Sunday afternoon, he asked if I want to go to the new cafe in our area for breakfast on Monday or if I wanted him to get a Subway sub for lunch.

I replied that I would like to go the cafe for breakfast on Monday and have a Subway sub for lunch on Monday! 🙂 He liked that idea.

The homemade cafe sign is evidence that this is a brand-new establishment. They opened the previous Monday.

The inside is cozy and the friendly staff made it a fun and delicious breakfast. It turned out that we knew their family and they knew us because of the TFC Truck Rally. As we talked, we learned that we have many mutual friends.

My very favorite food (so far) is their home fries – and I am not a home fry person. The way they fry and season them made them delicious to my taste.

This family and the owner made a great choice in transforming an old bar into a cute little cafe.

If you live in our area, it is just north of the Pennsylvania turnpike entrance/exit on Route 72.
