Road Trip Day 13 – Part 5 – Evening on Mackinac Island

Saturday Evening, August 7

I will start this post with an appreciation for the location and hospitality of Lake View Hotel.

We liked that our motel was in the downtown area of Mackinac Island.

It was easy to access from Shepler’s Ferry and they were quite accommodating. Our luggage was taken there by ferry porters and since I was carrying my laptop, it was also stored in the luggage department at the hotel. After being notified that our room was ready and checking into our room in the mid-afternoon – a porter brought the luggage and laptop to our room.

It was relaxing and interesting to view the street below us from the second floor balcony – the floor where our room was located.

We were also located close to the restaurant of our choice. The restaurant is the last building you see – just before the lawn. Our motel did have a restaurant, but we preferred the atmosphere of being on the lake.

After watching people from our floor’s balcony and walking around town a bit, we went back to the Carriage House Restaurant for dessert – about 6:00 pm.

This time the hostess placed us on the opposite side of the veranda.

Our view was similar but a bit different. This time we faced the beach and lawn instead of the ferry dock.

Cerwin ordered a cream puff hot fudge sundae which he declared delicious.

I had lemon meringue pie. Also very yummy.

We enjoying relaxing and watching children and people playing at the edge of the beach. There is no swimming allowed in this area.

As we watched this parachute, I told Cerwin, “I could easily add that to my bucket list.” 🙂

It looked like fun to be sitting up there under a parachute and being pulled by a boat.

At one point we noticed that several trees on the beach were leaning toward the lake. I expect that is caused by the lake winds – especially during winter.

As in previous posts the ferries continued to come and go on the lake. This boat is from the Star Line fleet.

After lingering as long as we could, we left the restaurant and walked through the busy part of town, window shopping and in a few cases going inside a shop.

We went into the market – at the far end of this picture – to look for a few items to go with our coffee in the morning. Lakeview does not offer breakfast. I am not sure if it is always their procedure or if it is not served as a result of COVID. I purchased a yogurt and Cerwin got a small pack of donuts.

Our only purchase beside food was this coffee cup. We usually buy a coffee cup when on a special road trip. We liked this one because it changed scenes when the cup was hot.

So ended our day on Mackinac Island. We put in a very full day, because rain was forecasted for the next day.
