Heading to Heze & Kayla’s Wedding

6:30 AM. We followed a big rig on our local Mountain Road shortly after leaving our house. I told Cerwin, “I think it is my reminder to pray for the truckers we see today.”

I enjoyed reading the trucking company’s “branding” or “mission statement” when we passed them – or they passed us – as we headed south on I-81.

We remember seeing R & L trucks at TFC’s Truck Rally – probably because there is a terminal not far from the fairgrounds. I googled the company – which is out of Ohio. The company was founded in 1965 by Ralph L. Roberts with one truck. Today the company has 21,000 tractors and trailers.

Loved the Bible verse on this truck. Can you quote Isaiah 40:31?

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. KJV

We saw lots of blooming Red Bud trees as we traveled through Virginia.

Do you know which grocery store chain uses these words for their branding?

Several crosses are landmarks on I-81.

Cerwin gave me a heads up when he saw this truck by saying, “You might want to get a picture of this truck.”

Cerwin just looked closely at this picture. The owner is from Morgantown, PA – Best Road. That is where I first worked for TFC when Melvin and Joyce Mast served in the Northeast Region. Their office was on Best Road. šŸ™‚

A set of crosses

Our first stop was shortly after 9:00 am for fuel and breakfast – at Toms Brooks, VA. I had the best fast food breakfast at Arby’s – a bacon, cheese, and egg biscuit. It was hot off the grill – almost too hot to eat.

Cattle on hillsides are common scenes in Virginia.

Pretty blooming trees.

Old Dominion says the are “Helping the world keep promises.”

We had fun reminiscing as we saw trucks that reminded us of trucking friends and events during the past 50 or more years.

We took time to visit TFC Global’s Chaplain David Nispel at the TA TravelCenter in Wytheville, Virginia. His Bible is always nearby when the conversation turns to spiritual things.

His Bible is well-used.

Cerwin must have said something that made David laugh.

We stayed for about 30 minutes before moving on toward the motel we had reserved in Knoxville, Tennessee.

We enjoyed seeing this old GMC at our final fuel stop for the day. By now we were in Tennessee and heading to a Best Western in Knoxville.

After checking in, we went to a nearby Outback Steakhouse for supper. The memorable thing for me here was when we were preparing to leave the restaurant. As I slide off the bench, I ended up sitting on the floor! šŸ™‚ We were in a dark area of the restaurant and I guess I thought the bench was longer. No damage to my body – other than a black and blue knuckle, which only lasted about a day.

We could have gotten to the wedding venue in one day, but Cerwin wanted to check a hunting area between Knoxville and Lebanon the next day.
