Butternut Squash Harvest – Day 1

Tuesday, October 20

I was hoping I would be home for the butternut squash harvest – and was pleased to see the equipment about 9:45 am.

I enjoy watching this, because it is more unusual in our area than corn or soybean harvest.

This is Jacob’s field (Amish neighbor), but someone else does the harvest for him. I expect he gets paid by the pound, because he made sure all stray squash were thrown back in the field where the equipment had not yet gone…

…or into one of the trailer rigs.

There were three trailer rigs waiting to be loaded with squash.

By the end of the first day they filled all three trailer rigs.

I talked to Jacob that evening and asked if they were coming back the next day. He said he was not sure, because they went by their own schedule. There were a lot of squash left for another day.
