Nice Walk After the Rain

Monday Evening, August 24

It felt refreshing outside – following a late afternoon rain – so I thought it would be a good time for a ten-minute walk. I do longer walks sometimes, but ten minutes is a doable goal for each day.

The first thing I saw was this pretty, heart-shaped red bud leaf in our driveway.

The hostas in the driveway flowerbed looked pretty with raindrops.

The road ahead of me still had a few water puddles.

I tried to find raindrops on the corn, but it must have been thirsty, so slurped it up immediately.

I did find a few drops.

Because I was in the grass looking for raindrops on the corn, I discovered a few grasshoppers.

A few won’t do much damage to a large field of corn before it is harvested, but I am thankful they weren’t part of a swarm.

This one was feeding on a leaf when I snapped the photo.

When I do a quick ten-minute walk, this is where I turn around – the first pole on the left.

The view as I returned to our house included our part of the Blue Mountain Range that runs to the north of our house, plus Eli’s farm buildings. He and their son Jacob farm the field across from our yard.

Approaching Eli and Jacob’s butternut squash field.

The squash are getting quite large.

Across the road from the squash, our crown vetch is still blooming.

Now back in our driveway, I thought the the daylily and crepe myrtle made a pretty contrast in the evening lighting.

The clouds captured my attention as I walked from our driveway to the eastern border of our yard.

There isn’t much blooming in the woodsy memory garden – except a few hostas.

When I saw a bit of yellow in our decorative grass, I thought it was a yellow leaf, but soon discovered another grasshopper.

I thought it was a different kind of grasshopper than the ones I saw on the corn, until I walked to the other side of the grass where he was feeding.

It does look a bit different than the field grasshoppers, but it may be a young one.

End of my refreshing walk – back to the house.
