Sunday School – Subject: Living FaithJames 2:14-26

Teacher – Nevin Ebersole

Does the world see anything in us that proves we are living in Jesus – with a living faith?

“Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my anxieties; and see if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

David in Psalm 139:23-24 New King James Version

We cannot experience a living faith if we have not come to faith in Christ.

Are you in Christ?

Is Christ in you?

Three kinds of works.

Works of the law

Works that tries to impress

Works of God

Faith without compassion is not genuine.

Faith without works is dead and not a living faith.

Opening Devotions before the sermon – Glendon Zook

2 Chronicles 16:9 King James: For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.

“Perfect” sounds impossible. Other versions say surrendered, committed, given completely to God.

Do we miss out on God’s blessings because we are not committed to God?

Sermon – Stick to the Truth – Hebrews 1

By Dustin Martin

What is truth?

We can listen to the media argue over the truth about almost any subject and be confused about truth.

Hebrews was written to believers who were having struggles and being tempted to turn back because Nero was trying to make it illegal to be a Christian.

It was okay to be a Jew but it was not okay to be a follower of Jesus.

God’s plan is progressive in revelation of truth.

First he gave the Law – then He gave grace.

Grace was a new revelation in the last days.

Jesus is everything we need.

He is superior to the Old Testament prophets.

Prophets were men with a message from the Lord.

Jesus is Lord.

Jesus is superior to the angels.

Angels worship Jesus.

Jesus does not worship angels.

Compromise could have been an easy way out of persecution for early Christians.

It would have been an easy way for Daniel.

He prayed with open windows.

He could have closed them and prayed secretly.

Compromise would have been an easy way out for the three Hebrew children – Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

They could have knelt and pretended to worship the king and still worshiped the true God.

The challenge of Hebrews 1: Do not compromise in your faith.
