Fieldwork and Rose-breasted Grosbeak

Monday, June 8

There was someone back in Eli and Jacob’s field – tilling and cultipacking the ground.

I am interested to see what they are going to plant.

There is a lot of dust, so the topsoil must be rather dry.

Closer to the house – but looking out the same window – a male grosbeak was enjoying a lunch of black oil sunflower seeds.

I am seeing lots of grosbeaks this year. I have seen four males at one time and now that there are fledglings, I think there must be six or eight. I see the females as well, but not as often.
