Notes from Easter Weekend Worship

Good Friday, April 19

Message by Jim Myer

Suppose you could have been in Heaven with God the Father and God the Son when they had their first conversation about the plan of salvation for the human race.

The cross is a symbol of death and suffering. It is also a symbol of the power of God.

When the world was at its worst, Jesus was at His best.

The crucifixion was not an afterthought for Jesus. He knew why He came to earth and set His face to go to Jerusalem.

The cross is a symbol of hope.

“Called to Believe the Resurrection”

God is the only person qualified to call us to salvation. Do we hear His call? How do we respond?

There are only two responses: yes or no.

Worship Service – Ron Copenhaver

He asked the children to come forward to the front benches for a story about a missionary couple who were kidnapped and put in prison.

Two children volunteered to be put behind “bars” – a wooden skid.

Their captors asked for a ransom of money.

Ron had the children pass out offering baskets for ransom money. Eventually there was enough money to free them.

Then he asked all the children to go on the pulpit behind the prison bars.

He explained how Jesus paid the ransom to free them from the prison of sin – before they were “released” to go back to their parents.

The power of God is sufficient.

It was sufficient to raise Jesus from the dead. It is sufficient for us.

The resurrection of Jesus gives us a brilliant light and a brilliant hope.

Are you utilizing the power of God or staying in a prison of defeat?

The power of his resurrection is for us – now.

Because of Jesus we have a “living” hope.
