Special Luncheon With Mother High

Thursday, October 29

I was honored to take Mother to a luncheon at Landis Homes to honor residents who have lived there for twenty or more years.

Luncheon (1)A van/bus was used to transport patients who do not live in the same building as Harvest Room.

I was going to push mother across campus in her wheelchair, but the weather was a bit threatening (windy and dark clouds) at the time, so we went along on the bus.

Luncheon (2)Mother coming off the wheelchair lift into the bus.

Luncheon (3)Betty was the one who suggested that they have this dinner and was the master of ceremonies.

Luncheon (4)Each person was allowed to bring a guest. I think there were three or four who had guests – the others came by themselves.

Luncheon (7)Ed was the administrator twenty years ago and opened with prayer before the meal.

Luncheon (8)Our salad

Luncheon (9)Our delicious meal

Luncheon (10)I enjoyed sitting across the table from this 100-year-old resident and his daughter Dale. As Dale and I got acquainted, we realized that we share a friend – Inge.

Inge is on staff with Transport For Christ and Dale and Inge used to be in the same walking club.

Luncheon (11)We had ice cream and Boston cream pie for dessert.

Luncheon (12)After lunch there was a time of reminiscing about events from twenty years ago, then we enjoyed singing with Lamar. Most songs were requested by residents.

Luncheon (13)Since we were in the area of the campus where mother lived independently for twenty years – until her fall last year which resulted in a broken hip – I took her to her old apartment. We were delighted that the Weavers were home and invited us to come inside.
