Monday in Maine

During our October visit, Diane usually takes us for a drive to an area that we have not yet visited. This time her goal was to buy apples. She chose North Star Orchards, Madison, Maine, as our goal.

First, we stopped at BME a construction supply store where prices are affordable for those who are remodeling or building something.

It is a ministry of the Brethren churches in Maine. We had heard about it, so it was nice to have Greg show us around inside the building. One thing Greg said they have to do before it opens in take inventory. I can’t imagine counting all the inventory inside this building.

Next, we headed toward Skowhegan which is in about south of center in Maine.

We wanted to find a unique restaurant – definitely not a chain.

We definitely found a unique restaurant.

We don’t often get to have Sarsaparilla or Blueberry soda. They each have a unique flavor.

Cerwin’s pulled beef open sandwich with cole slaw.

I had a delicious cup of unstuffed pepper soup.

We also took time to shop in the next-door country store which featured Maine Grains.

Next we headed toward North Star Orchards, near Madison, which Diane had entered in her cell phone – wanting to find apples.

This too was a unique place with a cute country store – as well as apples and apple cider.

There were a lot of people picking apples in the orchard.

There was a nice display of pumpkins.

We drove off road to a scenic view thinking all the cars indicated a nice view. It turned out to be a wedding. 🙂

There was a nice view, but the leaves were not yet colorful, and it wasn’t the right time of the day to be facing the mountains.

That was a fun drive.
