My Mother’s Day Weekend

Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8

Our very rainy Saturday began with brunch at Mill 72 in our local town of Manheim – a gift from our Maine daughter (Diane) and Mark.

Our breakfast sandwiches and drinks did not equal our gift card total, so we added a delicious cinnamon bun, which we bought to take home for an afternoon snack. Oh, yum! After adding the cinnamon bun, we were out 8 cents. 🙂

Cerwin waiting on his Capuchino and our sandwiches.

Our view of Route 72 on a cold, rainy morning.

My orange juice and bacon, egg and cheese croissant and Cerwin’s bacon, egg and cheese sandwich.

Shortly after our sandwiches arrived, our friends Wilbur and Judy walked up to our table to say hi. We have not seen them for several years, so invited them to sit at the table next to us and had fun catching up on each other’s lives. Wilbur was Cerwin’s boss during the time Cerwin had his first job (after working for his dad) at Rohrer’s Quarry. They reminisced about interesting things that happened in the late ’50s and early ’60s.

Before leaving the restaurant, I received a text from our oldest son, Jeff, saying that my Mother’s Day gift was at our place. He was sorry to have missed us and promised me a hug and kiss in church the next day – and he did.

I was pleased to have a pretty arrangement at our front door, because we were having guests (a committee meeting from church) at our house on Monday evening. I had thought about buying something for there.

Sunday Morning – before church – Jere (youngest son) stopped in with a butterfly bush from him and Kristen.

I have a perfect spot for it, but for the first week or so, it will add beauty to our front door entrance.

Their pretty and thoughtful card.

I received this pretty rose from a member of the youth group. They gave one to every mother who was at church on Sunday morning.

I took a picture to show you how the flowers added to the beauty of our front door azalea.

It’s nice having a summer-looking patio again.

We had an early supper date with Roy, Deb (youngest daughter) and Barb (Roy’s mom) at Kyma Seafood Grill.

We needed a new picture of us. I was 30 when she was born, so, since I am 78, she must be 48. 🙂

Roy ordered a delightful crab appetizer for the table and Deb ordered French Onion soup.

Crab cakes – I forget whose they were. Maybe Barb’s. Deb’s filet mignon and sweet potato.

My crab-stuffed flounder and rice pilaf. Cerwin’s filet mignon and sweet potato. Each of us also had a house salad. Notice the small amount of rice at the bottom of the picture of my meal. Our waitress brought the rice during a second trip to our table. I teased her that I was hoping to get more rice than what was on my plate. 🙂

Roy’s seafood plater and our desserts – chocolate cake, 2 key lime pies – there were actually 3 – (Cerwin, Barb and me) and Deb’s creme brulé.

By-the-way, we brought a lot of food home and are still enjoying left-overs.

Deb’s pretty card for me.

When we got home, I was surprised to see these three items on our kitchen counter. The beautiful tulips and card were from our grandson Josh, his sweet Emily and her daughter Tucker. The large slice of cake was from Kristen. Oh, yum – a Banana Pecan Torte.

The card says, “May Your Day be Full of Beauty.” It was!
