Midweek Excursion – with Diane

We set aside the day for a variety of things. First, we went to Joyce’s Coverings & Veils and then to Glenwood Foods (a discount grocery store where Diane likes to shop). She and I found some good discounts on items we needed – especially for game night two days later. The Starbucks coffee beans we use were really a good deal. 🙂 That made Cerwin smile.

After we finished there, we introduced Diane to Village Farm Market (almost next door to Glenwood). This is not a discount store, but a fabulous market with lots of baked and pre-made items. It is our favorite place to get pies. People who don’t have time to cook (or like to cook), can find lots of casseroles, prepared deli and baked things here.

We wanted to locate a special restaurant to treat Diane for her birthday – which was January 1. We don’t remember ever being at the Olde Lincoln House – even though many locals seem to enjoy it. There is no proof that President Lincoln ever visited here, but the place features a lot of Lincoln memorabilia.

The main section is original to the 1800s, though many updates have been made over the years.

The building has held many names, when it offered room and board, such as Miller’s, Fair’s, and Spangler’s Hotel. Board is no longer offered, but the food is a specialty.

We asked Diane to choose the appetizer. She chose deep fried pickles.

Diane’s chicken

My crab-stuffed soft pretzel was beyond amazing!

I didn’t take a photo of Cerwin’s meal and we’re not sure what he got, but think it was steak. 🙂

Following our early evening meal we stopped at Martin’s Country Market to get a few groceries we didn’t find at Glenwood or Village Market.

I do love mid-week excursions – even though we really didn’t need one while Diane was here as we enjoyed more outings than usual.
