Time with Diane

It was Diane’s last week with us (of three weeks). She was here for the birth of their granddaughter Natalie, Austin and Jana’s wedding, Hershey Family Spring Picnic and Cerwin’s 80th birthday party, plus a lot of other things we decided to do while she was here from Maine.

We started June by taking her to see Jere’s new office at Paul B. Zimmerman, Inc. He recently oversaw the construction/remodeling of the original home of the Paul B. Zimmerman family – which is where his office is now located. The family appreciated that he kept some things original – like doors and floors.

His major job right now is coordinating the construction of the new PB Hardware Store in Mechanicsburg, PA. If you want to see more about that go to (4) Facebook.

In these pictures he is showing us the floor layout at Mechanicsburg.

After visiting Jere we went next door to PBZ Manufacturing where our grandson Nathan (Jeff & Chris’ son) works. I hadn’t seen his office since it was remodeled. Sorry, I didn’t take my camera along inside because it was kind of a spur-of-the-moment thing.

On the way home we stopped at several places to look for canning lids for Diane. They are difficult to locate right now. She found some off-brand lids and though they worked, she said she will probably not buy that brand again.

After finding jar lids we stopped at Fox Meadow’s Creamery for lunch then went to Nate and Abby’s to get Anthony. He wanted to help Grammy gather tea in our mint garden.

He especially enjoys removing tea leaves. Our tea bed is not as full as it was last year, which is kind of nice, because I was overwhelmed with tea last year. I was pleased that she harvested every tea stalk.

After finishing an inside project, I joined them. Cerwin noticed and thought it looked like a photo opportunity.

She turns her tea into a heavy liquid by steeping it for about 10-12 hours. When serving, you pour the liquid into a pitcher and add 3 times the amount of water (adjust to your taste). I like my tea sweet and strong. 🙂

I did not need any tea in our freezer, so she canned almost everything for Abby, Lydia, Deb, and herself. Each jar lid had a name on it because she made each batch to order. Deb likes her tea like mine – strong and with a good serving of sugar. Someone wanted lemon and varying amounts of sugar were requested. She canned it because neither have freezer space. There was about a gallon left to put in our refrigerator – which was gone in a few days.
