Night Time Animals

I have been frustrated with the skunks and raccoons that are eating birdseed – especially suet during the night. I kept finding suet holders on the ground in the morning. One morning the suet holder was even missing. It was the day we left for Heze and Kayla’s wedding in Tennessee. When we got back, the suet holder had been returned. I called a couple of neighbors to see if they returned it. Neither had. When I told our daughter Deb, who works in animal rescue, she said, “Oh, that was a raccoon. They will return dishes and containers so they will be refilled!” It seems unbelievable, but I had no other choice but to believer her. 🙂

She suggested that I get dogfood and put that out, because the mama raccoons and skunks are quite hungry this time of year and often won’t go far in an effort to keep their babies safe. Raccoons and skunks like dogfood, but it won’t attract feral cats. Two days after putting a dish of dogfood out, I spotted this skunk at the dish. It was still dark, so there are some strange lightings because of windows and outside night lights. Also, nothing has touched our birdseed or suet since then – except the birds. 🙂
