Crows

I had fun watching a group of crows the other day.

A group of crows is called a “murder.”

They take big steps and walk with purpose – in a kind of waddle.

Fact about crows from the internet: The female lays four to five eggs and incubates them for 18 days. At four weeks, the chicks are able to leave the nest, though their parents still feed them until they are around 60 days old.

Crows can live up to 14 years.

This one came right up to the house.

Crows usually assign one or more of their flock to keep watch over the rest of the group as they feed on the ground nearby.

While acting as sentinels, the crows will call frequently, even when predators are not present.

When they intensify their loud “caw caw”, the crows that are feeding often fly away.

That was an interesting break in my day.
